It’s been a full news day, to say the least. This is just how the hockey world does it — preferring to go from a deep slumber for over a month to bullet train-like speed in just a few hours. Training camps open tomorrow around the league, but why wait? Let’s get right after it.

New Logo at Center Ice

Several months ago, Mayor’s Manor leaked some information about the rumored Kings third jersey that is allegedly just a few weeks away from making its official debut. If you’re into connecting dots, perhaps today’s unveiling of a new logo at center ice of Crypto.com Arena should raise a few eyebrows.

During an appearance on Kings Of The Podcast last September, AEG Sports COO Kelly Cheeseman first talked about the possibility of the ‘new’ Kings crown getting such prime real estate inside the building, and now it’s a reality.

Ice went down earlier this week, but we heard the logos experienced some shipping delays yesterday. Everything must have been solved today, though, as the LA Kings twitter account posted this photo late this afternoon:

Is there a possible connection?

For a brief history lesson, this will be the first time since 2013 LA’s downtown Arena will feature a crown as the predominant center ice logo.

Per TheFaceoff.net database, the above image — or something very close to it — was pretty much what Staples Center looked like from its opening in October 1999 through 2013.

Creative Expression

Among the list of things many hockey fans like about the sport is some creative expression goaltenders are allowed to display through their mask designs. Through the years, LA goalies have worked with various artists to come up with several masterpieces — including these two gorgeous designs, which rank right near the top of any ‘best Kings mask’ list:

Vachon and Robitaille Tribute Mask

Kings of Clubs aka Stauber Tribute Mask

Newly signed goaltender Anton Forsberg is now getting in on the fun. In an Instagram post from longtime goalie artist DaveArt, the following was shared:

“The Dawg King — Royal, fearless, and one of a kind – this mask for Anton Forsberg and the Los Angeles Kings brings together team pride and family love. Covered in metallic effects and crowned with holographic gems, the design roars with LA Kings energy. And on the side – the true king of the mask, Anton’s own family dog, ruling the crease with golden crown and royal armor. Hockey meets heritage. Family meets battle. Long live The Dawg King.”

Major Announcement Incoming

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Kings PR team sent out an email regarding a ‘major announcement’ being made on Thursday. No further details were offered, yet that hasn’t stopped speculation from raging wild on social media. While you’re contemplating what it might be, be sure to read our two Camp Storylines article linked below. That should get you prepared for Thursday’s opening day of training camp.
