History Old Newspaper Kings Ads and Other Oddities Through The Years

I love all these old newspaper clippings shared but THIS one has really got me curious. Does anyone have any more details about this exhibition game? Someone posted the broadcast to youtube which is incredible but anything else I can find out about this matchup would be a real fun deep dive.

It's not much of a "deep dive" here but I can tell you I attended the game. The Kings were in it until late if memory serves. But the USSR team didn't think much of the Kings and one of the players afterward made a remark that (paraphrasing) said the Kings didn't have any kind of "cleverness" or "artistry" to their game. I'm probably not using the right words here to describe it but there it is.

I can tell you one thing I remember being weird was the names on their jerseys. They were all in the Cyrillic alphabet which gave an "other worldly" sense to them...especially during the cold war Reagan era.

Love reading this! Thank you for sharing.

I've got to go through my stuff but I have a bunch of old media guides, comic strips/jokes, etc. that I'll try to take pictures of and post.

I've got to do the same...my stuff is buried in the attic and I can't get to it now.

TWO absolute legends! One side note: At the very end, it shows Oilers 2, Kings 1, end of first period. This was game 4 of the Kings-Oilers 1989 first round playoff series. The Oilers won this game, 4-3, to take a 3-1 series lead. But, the Kings won the next three games to win the series.

On August 7, 1970, Larry Regan was named head coach of the @LAKings. Regan, who also served as general manager, coached the #LAKings to a record of 27-47-14 in 88 games behind the bench.

As I remember, I think this was the last game at the Forum. Preseason. We sat behind the Kings goal, and I fell in love w that angle. I have had similar seats at Staple/Crypt. since it opened. Andy Murray and the Ducks coach got in to a heated argument during the game, Andy was livid and looked like he wanted to climb over to the other bench. Good times.

I seem to remember this game was a real barn burner lots of fights.
Does anyone know the date?

I think it was GA game and I had glass seats with camera. If the pics turn up I’ll post some.
