Panarin to Kings

A development so stupid, it almost deserves its own thread:

The Kings just showed everyone they are going for it now, and for 2 more seasons
I don't believe by picking up Panarin they are going for it. They need an additional 4-5 solid players to compete with teams like Colorado and or most in the Eastern Conference.

Holland and Hiller decide to let him join the team after the Olympics and I am sure he appreciates it.
Smooth transition to meet with coaches and team and practice and learn the system.
Its the right move
I'm not sure it's the right move to fall further back of the division leader, if you are trying to compete for a playoff spot. I'm sure the Hiller and Holland didn't believe the Kings would lose last night at home to a team ahead of them in the division, after that team played the night before and was crushed by another team ahead of the Kings.

He is your star player make him happy and comfortable.
I think there was too much emotion yesterday .
Getting Panarin.
Then the pre game Olympic acknowledgements. The Kings came out hard but the air came out of the bag.
Should have had the Olympic hat tip tonight but it was scheduled and you don't wanna stir up Vegas who has more Oly guys

The more I look at the current situation this sure smells a lot like Kovalchuk: the sequel. An aging offensive talent who might get leashed by a terrible coach until he gets frustrated and wants out.

Pretty refreshing to hear a pro athlete of this his calibur say something like 'money is not that important to me.' I did a double take on that one.
Refreshing yes, however, maybe he doesn't value himself that high at this point of his career. I like the player, I just don't believe he will live up to this contract. He's not the same player. At his age, he can't change his game.

It’s a great deal for the Kings as long as Hiller doesn’t suffocate Panera like they did Kuzmenko, who last season we thought was a savior on the power play. Luc in an interview today said Panera just needs to play his game and he’s gonna help everyone help. Hope coach was listening to that podcast.

Some really interesting takes on this thread. This trade was 100% lopsided towards the Kings. The Rangers were put in a tough position and got a very mediocre return. One day we might look back and regret this trade, IF Pan declines significantly (there is no indication this is happening in the next two years) and IF Greentree rapidly turns into an all star player NHL roster player.

Meanwhile we finally have an all-star player CHOOSE the Kings as a destination when offered more money in a different arena, something we'd been complaining about for the last few seasons.

The Kings are NOT going to be trading potential playoff assets like Perry away for draft picks. They're NOT rebuilding. We may lose a roster player in a trade for what Holland views as an upgrade, but don't look for anything resembling a rebuild at this time.

I just wish that our focus was on upgrading what I see as a very poor defense.
