Panarin to Kings

Zeimer scored a hatty.

Pan - Byf _Foegle
Fiala - Laff - Kempe
Perry - Kopi - Armia
Mal - Heli - Moore
Where Kuzy?
Side note question:
What’s the opinion on Malott? I thought there might be a bit more but so far haven’t really seen it. Is he NHL caliber fourth liner?

Re Moore: the last couple years he’s put together one productive half season. He hasn’t had it yet. Since his return he’s been scoring. Was his two- year history a fluke, or is he in the beginning of another scoring run? If so, fourth line isn’t going to make it happen.

Some good questions. Malott, he is an okay 4th liner. Not producing much, but not a horrible defensive liability either.

Moore is at his best when he finds openings, either down low or off the boards. He does not seem to have that first step quickness that he has had in the past. Quickness that he used to get separation and get shots off. Not sure if it is gone, or just has not had the ability/chances to use it. He used to be able to skate into the zone, stop up on the boards and peel off of the coverage and get open space. Have not seen him do that consistently since he scored 30+ goals.

No idea if this is the case for Panarin but I do know the Dodgers used a large signing bonus for one of their big free agents because he lives in Washington state during the offseason. There’s no state income tax in WA. So he save about 16% by taking a lump sum before the season starts.

Interesting. That's quite a "loophole" for the state tax disadvantage...

With Panarin on board, Holland now suggesting he’s going to dangle Foegele after Olympic break. Too bad, I like him, despite his down year

Makes sense. The Kings have too many players that need top 9 minutes, and not enough roster spots. Hopefully he can fetch a similar return to Danault...

Hopefully there's a team out there that will appreciate that he's not a rental.

Edmonton has atrocious scoring depth...maybe they take a swing at him.

Weird, the official LA Kings roster lists him as a C, so I took their word for it.🤷🏼‍♂️

So you would be right: Kopi will probably center the line. My bad.

Yeah...you'd think the official NHL site would have any idea, right?

We should not trade him to Edmonton. Send him East.

Playing Panarin with Byfield and Fiala would be a serious mistake that would negate Panarin’s play making skills. Both Fiala and Byfield play totally unpredictable hockey and thrive on chaos. Kopi is the only Kings center right now who can complement a player like Panarin, as he showed when he played with Gaborik. Add Kempe to that line and the Kings would be icing an actual first line by NHL standards. When Turc gets back, he takes his place with 22 & 96 once again. That line was clicking very well. Byfield with Foegele and Laffy should have worked. But Foegele tuned out from this team when we all saw him say “f***ing coward” on the bench. 4th line is working as is. Leave it alone. Eventually, I would try to trade both Moore and Foegele in a bigger off season deal.

I agree that Panarin needs to be lined up with Kempe. Whether it is Byfield, Turcotte or Kopi centering that line likely remains to be seen as all three have their advantages, and disadvantages.

Your analysis regarding chaos is an interesting one. I think Byfield slots into that line the best currently, especially as his shot has begun to improve - but interestingly, the safest bet actually seems to be Turcotte. Turc seems to be able to fit with any linemates and has an extremely high ability to adapt/adjust. Then there is Kopi who is still the best Center on this team, but his speed may hold that line back (plus the need for reduced minutes).

It'll be intersting to see what line combos HIller comes up with.

I don’t want to see Byfield playing with Panarin and Juice because he will defer both those guys. I want him to shoot the puck - even in a shutdown role. His best complementary winger is Laffy. Add Moore/Foegele and it’s a shutdown line that can score.

Turc is such a good balance to Fiala and Kuzy. I like how that line operates. Fiala handles the puck less with Turc and that can only be a good thing. Kevin just needs to find open ice in the o-zone and let Kuzy and Turc do the work. Kuzy and Moore are the team’s 2 best guys on the boards and could be interchangeable, but I would rather see the right shot player on Turc’s line.

Left Kuz off because he may be on IR and he is a FA so he may not be back next season.
I hope not.
I would try him with Byfield and Pan if they don't work out with Foegle, the first guy I give a shot to.
If you take a scratch guy and plug him onto a line it bolsters the strength of the rest of the lines.
He had a down year after a career year last year.
Same with Moore but 2 seasons ago.
I think Malott is improving and has gone fro an AHLer to a borderline NHL guy.
But we need the grit and how he calls out guys taking liberties on other teams , to throw down.
I don't believe in selling low on guys that are not going to return much unless you have a replacement and the roster space makes it a must.
Injuries happen, NHL or Olympics.
I don't believe in Kens let the unhappy bird out of the cage approach, until the contract is expiring.
If a guys gets on track and the team picks up steam with Panarin, happiness returns.
Yup Moore is not a great fit for L4 but you want to hold him and his contract and one time 30 goaler
