I think it’s entirely within the realm that a poster on this board might have extra insight via a source who knows the actual story. In fact it’s something I factor in when reading through the comments. If I recall correctly didn’t this board (could have been a different board) have some source who knew about injuries a few years back? I try to sense whether the comments have anything that suggests an association.
It would be a delicate balance posting here if you know things through someone who is connected. You can’t disrespect that relationship, violate the trust you have, or create an issue for that person. That’s all just basic decency.
So I certainly very much understand the point you have noted.
I’ll say this… IF there was a topic where people were accepting a view that a source was saying was wrong, someone in the know may try to push back a bit, offer some perspective or context, and perhaps try to shift the focus to something that was more relevant.
The problem though is that it only comes off as someone’s opinion as opposed to something more factual. Instead of accepting a contrary view based on real information the typical reaction might be “well that guys a dumbass”.
The intent is trying to enlighten people without jeopardizing but that’s a tough balance.
