I think these comments regarding narrative construction is the part that gets me.
But this is a board that is and should provide the freedom to post what we want. And all of us are allowed to reply in agreement or with disagreement so long as we don’t personalize the content.
It would be my hope that we understand that none of us know what goes on within the room.

A rebuild will not happen while Holland is here for the next three years. He is going Curad this thing until he departs. We are looking around 2028 for the rebuild to happen.
I would rather have started this rebuild sooner than later, however, the Kings organization thought they could build on their playoff series losing streak. I can't wait to see what he does, when this team is out of the playoff race this season.

Seems many team have moved away from the full tear down rebuilds and are going for quicker rebuilds for obvious financial reasons

Sometimes we do know things… I had a friend who worked for the Kings during part of Lombardi’s tenure. I had to be very discreet about anything I heard. Happily, the wasn’t a lot of drama then other than Brown losing the “C” and the Richards issue. That team was very close.

Just heard confirmation from David Pagnotta that Panarin’s home state is Florida. No income tax.

So is the lump sum/signing bonus scenario how these guys avoid paying the ‘athlete tax’? I’m sure you all know that their income tax gets spread out based on home and away games. Perhaps this one time payment all occurs within the bounds of one’s home state(Florida for instance), so he’s never culpable for any form of state or provincial income tax?

I'd guess that's the case.
The team bears some risk in such situation, though, as if there is a consequent trade within the season I guess the team he gets traded to only has to pay him peanuts. Maybe that also increases his trade value...

I get it, I am just looking at the teams like the Ducks, Redwings and throw in SJ and Chicago as they are a year or two away. Pittsburgh is the exception as they have not done the full rebuild and are successful. So far LA is one of the playoff teams that have failed on the quicker rebuild, as they are worse than last season.
Mangiapanne’s name has been mentioned. He hasn’t been a fit with the Oilers. Him & a sweetener would pique my interest

I think it’s entirely within the realm that a poster on this board might have extra insight via a source who knows the actual story. In fact it’s something I factor in when reading through the comments. If I recall correctly didn’t this board (could have been a different board) have some source who knew about injuries a few years back? I try to sense whether the comments have anything that suggests an association.
It would be a delicate balance posting here if you know things through someone who is connected. You can’t disrespect that relationship, violate the trust you have, or create an issue for that person. That’s all just basic decency.
So I certainly very much understand the point you have noted.
I’ll say this… IF there was a topic where people were accepting a view that a source was saying was wrong, someone in the know may try to push back a bit, offer some perspective or context, and perhaps try to shift the focus to something that was more relevant.
The problem though is that it only comes off as someone’s opinion as opposed to something more factual. Instead of accepting a contrary view based on real information the typical reaction might be “well that guys a dumbass”.
The intent is trying to enlighten people without jeopardizing but that’s a tough balance.

It’s not about complete tax avoidance. It’s mitigation. It’s about making the taxable income as small as possible.
The lump sum signing bonus can’t include his full annual salary. The CBA forces a player to take a base league minimum salary so that minimum will still be subject to local and federal taxes.
Panarin has a base salary of 1M and a signing bonus of 11M in year one. 1M and 9M in year two. Total salary 22M or AAV of 11M.
With the confirmation that Panarin’s home is in Florida, signing in LA makes a lot more sense. At 500K (half his games in LA) he’ll be paying about 10% more in state/local tax than if he signed in Vegas/Dallas/Florida.
