Phil Danault - Called in Sick against the Flames? Asked for a trade? UPDATE: TRADED

This team is making me sick, so I won't be coming to work today. I would like to request a trade to another NHL fandom.
Not suprising, imagine alor of players are how long can this go on for, wouldn't be surprised if players are Hiller isn't man for the job, style of play wise and culture wise

Interesting............. Walsh seems upset with Marco's post. He is either mad that this is public knowledge now, or that the guy's sources do not have the facts and it is indeed a rumor. Sadly, he did not actually deny it, so we are left wondering.

Haven't had team drama since the ToddFather randomly picked on Kaliyev after the Kings went on a 8-1-1 (in their last 10). Then I remember it hurt the chemistry so much they couldn't win a damn game in January or something and it finally led to his firing.

So yeah, thanks Danault for getting this Fire Hiller thing started!

Danault asking for a trade is the best possible outcome. The problem is a team with no long term Center depth needs to get a Center back in a trade. Phil is has 11M remaining on this contract (minus what he’s already been paid this season).
This definitely would put a huge hole at Center. Which is why I hope it’s not true. (Plus I like Danault.)

However, our current center dept is Kopitar, Byfield. Danault and mostly Turcotte. None are producing offensively very much. Defensively Danault is the least of the problems with this group.

If Danault goes, does Laffy get minutes at C if a trade doesn’t bring back a C?

Maybe Phil doesn’t like his reduced minutes?

Re the “calling in sick” stuff, they are on the road, in a hotel, where the doctors are also. I think it’s pretty obvious that he was sick, informed the coach, and stayed away from traveling party.

Maybe he was quiet quitting this season. I don’t know. The problem is we don’t know if it’s even true or what his reasons for wanting a trade would be. We can speculate it’s the coach or the system or whatever. But until he or his agent says, we don’t know.

If they do trade him they need a center back in return. We can play Helenius on the 4th line, Turcotte on either the 2nd or 3rd line, the new guy on the other of those 2 lines, and Byfield on the wing with Kopitar & Kempe.

Well that picking on Kaliyev thing turned out to be justified.

Quiet quitting--that's what I am doing as a Kings fan.

He called in sick to the Flames home game and according Seravalli he did not travel with the team. Seravalli has said for a little while there have been "rumors" of teams asking if Danault was available. Based on all of this, it sounds like he would not be shocked if he is traded by Friday. Not that he expects it to happen. It just seems like there has been smoke, so maybe there is a fire.

Why would teams be showing interest in Danault over the last few weeks if there was no "hint" that he was available? It is not like the Kings have been out of the playoff picture. Though, they are in a Wild Card spot as of now and lost Darcy, so...... In the end, whatever smoke there has been can easily turn out to be dust. Though, another thing to consider is that it sure seems that Danault has been playing uninspired hockey for much of this year. There could be some strange reason for him to want to move on.

Laf is maybe the only Kings player that could make a move to C, IMO. Not sure that is something that you try midseason though.

Sadly, 2025 Danault at 5.5m x2 might not be the easiest sell.

Ah, the Calgary game. Thanks for clarifying. I guess we are going to find out if the smoke means there is a fire.
I don’t think trading Danault would be difficult with an environment where Centers are in demand. And, what contender wouldn’t want a player who has a history of playing well in the playoffs? His defensive game is strong enough that he will have interest.

Yeah, you are right. However, moving him is one thing, but getting a decent return is another. I think that is what I was trying to get at. Centers are in demand, so getting an upgrade / replacement will cost dearly.

What would it look like if the Kings moved Danault and landed O'Reilly? RR is the better player and has a 1m lower cap hit.

Say there were 4 veteran top 9 centers that many teams figured would be available for trade by the deadline. I am not sure Danault would be the most sought after, unless the cost to acquire was considerably lower.

I believe this was the plan all along. Seems obvious that RR is a target for the Kings but Danault has to be moved before they could make a push to get him.

Trade Danault will essentially be a salary dump. Maybe they can pick up a young forward who needs a change of scenery.

The cost for RR will include a top prospect and the 2026 1st round pick. maybe an additional draft pick. I fully expect Holland to pay through the nose to get him.

I have some concern about the mileage O’Reilly has. Not sure what’s left in his tank.
