Phil Danault - Called in Sick against the Flames? Asked for a trade?

symbology

TEAM LGK
Herd on NHL radio this morning that Danault actually called in sick to the Flames game. Did not even show up to the Arena, did not check in with team Dr's. Just called in and said did not sleep well, not feeling well. Therefore I am not coming in. I think it was Bernstein that said it.

If true, that is pretty crazy.

***Update***

Reports are he has asked for a trade.

Avs looking for 3c, boy he'd be perfect, but, what does this say about the cluster F... this has become with Hiller being the leader. DeBoer would right the ship and if a player didn't get it done he'd let Holland know he's outta here.
I just Holland is burned out going to Disneyland with the grandkids so he can finally get to work and do what needs to be done

I would not be surprised if it happens more than we think. We just do not hear about it. Would suck if you had to come all the way to the arena and say something feeling like hell.
I would think the player calls and talks to the Dr's and tell them what is up. The Dr's then tell the team.

This sounded weird to me. Why not just say the player was sick, had the flu. Unless someone was trying to stir the pot. I think they were talking about the Kings troubles and they brought up that Danault was out. This is when DB said he called in sick, said he could not sleep and he was not coming to the rink. I took it as something else was going on the way it was said. He could have easily just said Danault was out with an illness. After this game, hearing that other members of the team were also sick would have maybe changed the way I looked back on that comment. At the time it seemed odd.

Eh, "called in sick" doesn't mean he didn't call the team Doctor.

If others are apparently sick, too, then it makes sense. If others weren't...based on his play this season I'd be worried he's got some more serious mental issues. :(

I can understand why you say that, but I see it differently. Also, when I posted this it was after I watched like the last 2 minutes of the game and did not know about other illnesses on the team.

To me calling in sick means you call your boss and tell him I am staying home and not coming in. If he called the team medical staff and said I feel this way, and can't play. Then they would have gone to the coach / team and said Phil as a flu type thing and cannot play. How could that then have been mentioned to some media folks as he called in sick. They would have just said he is sick and will not play. That is why I see it as odd. If Hiller said that maybe he was trying to stir the pot, or?

In all the time you have followed sports when announcers / media say a player is out due to illness, they just player "X" is out with an illness. I have never, ever heard anyone say player "X" called in sick. Again, seems a little odd to me.

Media personalities looking to fill airtime with truthiness. Nobodies wrong, but nobodies right. In any case the NHL roster freeze hits Friday just as a reminder.

To me this sounds like we're looking too much into it when the announcer likely simply didn't phrase it like most of them do, usually.

I mean, it can just be a more casual way of saying it the same thing, can it?

If Danault's conduct was problematic in this case I really doubt they'd let thr announcers leak it like that into the public and risking diminishing his trade value, no? Unless the announcer did it unintentionally...which I guess is possible, but probably unlikely, as they'd likely be aware of the weight of the situation.

Danault asking for a trade is the best possible outcome. The problem is a team with no long term Center depth needs to get a Center back in a trade. Phil is has 11M remaining on this contract (minus what he’s already been paid this season).
