GDT ***Playoffs Rd 1, Gm 4 GDT - LA Kings @ Edmonton Oilers 4/27/25 >>6:30pm<< on TBS, tru, max & FanDuel***

I suspect Tues will either be an Edm blow out or a repeat of Kings dominating first two periods, be up by two goals, and then proceed to lie to themselves that they are capable of playing prevent defense against a team as offensively talented as Edmonton for 20 minutes straight. Absolutely imbecilic strategy.

Jordan Spence: +23 in the regular season. Not good enough to play in the playoffs.
Brandt Clarke: +13 in the regular season. Can't get ice time in the playoffs.
Alex Turcotte: +6 in the regular season. Not good enough for the playoff roster.
Samuel Helenius: +1 in the regular season. Keeping the bench nice and warm in the playoffs.

Jim Hiller is the dumbest motherducker in the NHL. Never has a coach blown so much capital with the fans in the span of four games. These 2 losses are entirely on him.

As I continue to shake off the rust:

Hiller prevent defense has proved problematic in 3 out of 4 games yet he doesn't seem to have learned anything.

Why was he letting/not admonishing guys for trying to score on the empty net? Sure if you've got a *really* good look and you've made the red line, go nuts. Icing the puck for a D zone faceoff against the best tandem in hockey is a terrible plan. High flips towards the middle of the rink only or soft plays off the boards.

Playing a fraction of the bench was having an obvious impact. The Kings were a step and a half behind from about half way through the third. Look at Montreal. They put a kid with 3 games of NHL experience on their PP and got rewarded with a goal and an assist tonight. At some point you have to have *some* faith. Gavi takes a dubious trip but he'd been on the ice for almost 3 minutes. Whole team was gassed.

A 5 or 6 game series in the Kings Favor is now a 6 or 7 game series that I struggle to envision us winning.

In the annuls of Los Angeles Sports Playoff History....right up there with Dave Roberts pulling the starting pitcher while he's pitching a perfect game...is Quitting (not sic) Byfield doing God The F*ck Knows What with that puck. He might as well have been wearing an Edmonton Oilers jersey.

Un-freakin-believable.

If the Kings go on to lose this series, which seemed impossible at one point, it will come down to Hiller and his mind-boggling Riverboat Gambler routine. And Quinton Byfield doing something that probably cannot be explained by the world's greatest scientists.

Byfield has still been one of the best Kings this series. Let's get off the nonsense of blaming a player for a loss - it's just ridiculous. Yes it was a pivotal play, but it was not the end all be all that led to the loss.

I can count at least 20 unfortunate plays, bounces or missed calls that contributed to the loss. Time to regroup, start rolling all 4 lines and win the next game.

Such a selfish play by Byfield. He saw visions of skating in on that empty net. Should’ve been benched for it, but no - out next shift while several others remain benched.

And I love Trevor Lewis and hate when he’s bashed - but did I really see him in overtime?

Wrong!

30 seconds left. One goal lead. Protect the puck. And go home up 3-1.

Or.

Try to make ESPN Number One Highlight Play of the Week. And go home looking like a moron.

It was a single dumbest, most selfish play I've ever seen in my life at that point of a game in the playoffs with everything on the line.

I'm not a big social media guy but maybe you should click on Quinton Byfield and see what's going on.

That was epic.

I had to dust off this account and log back in after almost a decade of inactivity just to give my hot take and let off some steam.

Holy hot garbage what is this team after two periods? Honestly, if not for the Danault last-minute winner this series would be right where it was the last 3 times LA has played EDM. This team hasn't learned ANYTHING! McDavid still can't be contained by... who-the-F is Mikey Anderson?! Him and Draisitl are still running a two-man train on our defense, the Oilers obviously have the refs in their pocket, and yeah - we got rid of the 1-3-1 but now we're just playing A-S-S defense. I'd even wager that the PP where it is is only that way because the Oiler's aren't running the same PK core that they've previously had. How many times have we given up a lead to repeated "Bouche Bombs" (the corniest thing I've ever heard in ANY sport btw).

And what the hell was that OT period? We had zero offensive zone pressure. The team completely threw forechecking out the window and looked like they were hoping for a broken play to capitalize on. These are the effing Oilers, it's not going to happen in OT! Our team looked like beaten dogs out there while McDavid and Draisitl were buzzing around like it was a new hockey game. Our conditioning looks terrible after the team has blown its load padding the scoring and then back pedaling the rest of the way.

I don't have much hope for the rest of the series. Sure, maybe we take the next game at home but it's probably only going to set us up for a heartbreaking game 7. I'd love to be proven wrong but this team has been the LA Kongs for several years now.
