GDT ***Playoffs Round 1, Game 1 GDT Oilers vs. Kings 4/21/25 7:00pm on ESPN2 & FanDuel***

Stay the course boys. Rest up, go over film and be ready to go for game 2.

Too many folks all-negative all the time. What I saw in person tonight was a Kings team deeper than Edmonton. Yes, they have the best player in the world. But we have the better team (No Ekholm helps us of course). And we played better than they did overall.

I expect seven games. War of attrition. Let's go!

Corey Perry. POS. After the game was over Byfield tried to recover the game puck which was near the EDM bench. Perry saw that Q wanted the puck so Perry picked up the puck, put it in his glove, and skated away. Q asked for the puck, Perry declined, and then one of the refs came over and tried to take the puck out of Perry’s glove but he gripped the puck and wouldn’t let go. Perry then turned around and went down the tunnel. What a POS.

Normal Perry behavior. Douchebag level = high

Lol, what a f'ing baby. Perfect fit for that team TBH...
I kinda feel bad for Arvidsson.

Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.
This was me the entire game after we scored. Then when they scored it was Oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap. But we won so WOO-HOO!!! And heavy sigh.

The most important thing is we get out with the win. But I don't like the fact that we gave them some hope. I said before the game that if 97 & 29 are together it's better for us, and I still believe that. But I also said we can't give those guys any space. And on that game tying goal nobody touched McDavid. That can't happen any more. If they're going to play them together we have to keep on them & wear them out. And then take advantage when they're off the ice.

That all said, if we come out the next 3 games with the same effort & the same results, I would be so freaking happy. That is if they don't give me a heart attack.

Go Kings Go!

I saw Q looking at The Oil bench .., didn't know it if it was chirping or typical Oil BS...
Thanks for clarifying.

Just like when Kings beat them after we fired Todd. Kings wanted the puck - The Oil player kept it.

Such a dislikable squad

The more I rewatch that game the less I think we can take away from it. The amount of penalties. The fortunate bounces. The terrible decisions. Probably best to wipe this one from the memory and go back to the game plan for Game 2.

The Kings need to find a way to roll 4 lines and 6 d men. They can’t win this series with 3 lines and 2 d pair.

There was grit from this Kings team. Then there was a let down. Then there was a goal that says, "This team is destined to win it all."

In the end, I need to get a defibrillator for game 2.

Kings were pretty dominant for 40 minutes, can't sit back against this team. Those 2 empty net misses and inability to clear the puck (broken record) could have doomed us.

Crowd was fantastic and say what you will about the Korean Senior Harmonica group, they set the tone by getting the fans to sing the National Anthem. I don't recall ever seeing that, instantly brought the energy level up. Methinks there was a method to the madness by Kings entertainment team.

On to game 2, hoping we have the same crowd energy (minus the drunk couple in front of us that could barely walk post game, I hope they were not driving).

After reflecting, more thoughts on this one. First, both teams can take a lot of positives out of this one. The Oilers can take away that they were dominated for 40 minutes, yet almost won the game. The Kings can take away having won the special teams battle (6 on 5 aside), and having survived a late collapse to win. Another important takeaway, the Kings took the Oilers' (well, really McDavid's) walloping haymaker of a blow, and recovered to win. The Kings mental fortitude was debated earlier in this thread, and I think the Kings showed they have it.

Adding nothing here, I'm sure, but the cross check into LaFeriere was probably a major penalty. I hope he is healthy. Looks like he got 3:39 of shift in the 3rd (5:10 in 1st; 7:39 in 2nd).

To me, he is key. There were at least two occasions where I thought McDavid, head down with puck, was vulnerable to absolute kill shots. LaF is one of the few who can deliver it.

Those of us who were at the Korean Heritage Night game a few weeks back totally"got it". At that game, the Harmonica Grannies started playing, and everyone was kinda like... This is sort of lame, but then a few people started singing along, and then a few more, and pretty soon the whole arena was singing and it was electric. So, that's why people pretty much started singing along right away last night.
And now the Korean Harmonica Grannies will obviously have to come back for game 2!

I missed that game unfortunately but yeah, they have to come back.

I listened to the Kings Talk recording this morning and I felt better after Jesse pointed out it’s empty net goals, and could just as easily have been 6-3. Clearly if it was the latter we’re all feeling pretty good about a solid win. Still wouldn’t like the 4-1 goal, but we’d take it.

Mistakes were made. @Statue4Deano is spot on about usage. Unacceptable to play the 4th line that sparingly, especially at home with last change. But, it’s not like Kings got utterly outclassed in the 3rd period.

So I agree with you both teams can take something from this, and the positives about what was need to outweigh the negatives about what wasn’t and could have been. That the Kings had that mental fortitude to still come back is hopefully a good sign they’re able to do that.
