GDT ***Playoffs Round 1, Game 2 GDT Oilers vs. Kings 4/23/25 7:00pm on tbs, max & FanDuelSoCal***

Agree. Why he didn’t let the fourth line play a lot when we were up 6-2 and the Oilers was so obviously beaten is beyond me?

This to both get them more involved and hopefully dish out some checks on 97 and 29, but also and foremost to rest our star players and also make sure that scumbags like Perry, Nurse and Kane didn’t have the opportunity to cheap shot players like Kempe, Byfield and Fiala in the last minutes of the game.

I just don’t get that part of Hiller’s coaching, although I’m of course VERY pleased with the game in general!!
I wondered the same thing at the game, but then I questioned if they were resting McDiddlyquat and Drysaddle. Those 2 didn't play almost the last half of the 3rd.

Mallot played quite a bit in the last 5 minutes of the game... so that was cool.

Because they are young, inexperienced and easily exposed. Look at EDM in the last five minutes, that team is defeated and demoralized. Hiller wants that to continue into the next game so it's best not to let them have any reason to hope. Don't expect more ice time in games 3 and 4 where EDM has the last change. And God help us if they are on the ice for an icing.
Agree but we can't go far if it continues.

Felt as though they were taking cheap shots at Byfield. Refs better take notice they seem to have tonight. God I hate the damn Oilers. Kings let's continue doing oil changes
There’s no question they were taking cheap shots at Byfield specifically, but there have been several instances in both games, like the cross check to Phil’s throat.

As much as I love a 6-2 ass thrashing of the Oilers, I am extremely disappointed that Hiller left a golden opportunity on the table, given the time and score, to specifically send out helenius and Malott in the final 3 to 4 minutes to do some serious damage and start taking questionable runs at players who deserve it. Namely guys like Hyman, Kane, Nurse and Perry. The message is easy to deliver. Hey Perry, drop your gloves with me right now or I’m breaking McDavids ankle my next shift.

Why, you ask, should we stoop to this level and resort to such tactics? Because the Oilers have already resorted to sh*t bird tactics like this, and turning the other cheek only emboldens them. I suspect we will see some extremely dirty play in the next two games, when the Oilers are urged on by their home crowd, that is also bound to influence the refs.

Just in case anyone missed this...

...when they pulled Skinner, Drew had a few words for him, and Kane took exception...until Malott intervenes and tells Kane to eat sh*t.

That first game in Edmonton is gonna be something.

Talk is cheap. I need mallott and helenius taking guys like Perry, Hyman, and Kane off the ice with them for 5 minute intervals, repeatedly, throughout the game.

Yeah I agree. But you do know they have to actually be out on the ice first, right?

What are they supposed to do, push Hiller out of the way, jump over the boards and hijack another guy's shift? (quite frankly, I'm all in favor of that, as long as it leads to Corey Perry being demolished)

I'd like to see those guys have some more ice time for sure, and start tomahawkin some of those dirty punks.

But this is up to Hiller. You can't hit anybody sitting on the bench. Just saying...

Of course, which is why mentioned above that I feel Hiller missed a golden opportunity, given the blowout game and line change advantage due to home ice. The absolute -perfect- opportunity to send those guys out there with malicious intent.

I'm not on the team, so I have no special inside info, but I did hear that (for example) Clarke was told by Hiller not to retaliate against any dirty plays and to continue playing his game. My guess is that it is an overall strategy. And the lack of response is probably even more annoying for the Oilers.
