PLD and how I learned to quit worrying about the bomb

Kopitar is still far and away our top line center, even as he slowed a bit over the past couple seasons. PLD, on the other hand, is a team work -11 and has shown very little to deserve a top line role with Kempe on his wing. If we want to get PLD going, however, the first step should be moving him to PP1 where he will thrive and see if he can translate the increased success to his 5X5 game.

I do like your idea of Kopi mentoring the younger players, but think that is more likely to come next season if PLD can find success this season.

Trading Kaliyev makes sense if the plan is to bring back Arvy, but what realistically could we expect to get in return for him? My guess is a 2nd or 3rd round pick at this point which, at his low salary, may make more sense to keep him for the time being.
Kopi’s absolutely the top center, but he can manage a lesser role with a very talented Byfield still beside him. It’s a hard situation but Blake has made the team’s bed and letting PLD waste away for a whole season is the worst option available. The only way he finds success is if he’s given the wingers to do so.

I wouldn’t recommend trading Arvy for a 2nd or a 3rd to clear cap/space when you can trade Grundy for a 4th or 5th for the same purpose. But if it gets to trading Roy, package Kaliyev with him and cash in.

Right, we will need arvidssons motor to get guys like PLD moving. I think the guy played with Kyle connor in Winnipeg, so he needs a shooter on his line to be ‘effective’.

Watching pld it's quite clear he's happy with any ice you give him he will not force his will on you. Even with that big Frame he doesn't use it ,and that's a damn shame.

It’s happening!

Guys VA is only pulling a 2nd, Kaliyev is not pulling that much even as an RFA. That said VA on a line with PLD and Hahvard is probably better than anything Blake can pull at the trade deadline.

I hope Fagemo shows the Kings he is better than just a good AHL player. Didn't happen here and it didn't happen in Nashville so I am hoping he proves he is an NHL caliber player the second time around in LA. We will see.

Is this an emergency recall due to lizotte injury? If so, I believe Fagemo is exempt when sent back down, right? If they sent him down within 30 days, or less than 10 games.. is that how the rule reads?

The Kings have 12 healthy forwards with Lizotte out so no emergency conditions apply.

Fagemo has 9 games and 30 roster days before he's waiver eligible again. What's interesting is there's other waiver exempt forwards on the Reign who the Kings could easily call up if they just need a healthy body to scratch. I think Sammy is going to play.

I hope so, he's earned it and it would send a good message to the rest of the Reign roster.

especially since the mandated week off is going to happen in these 30 days. I mean if you were going to give him a look and send him back down you wouldn't do it knowing you only get 20.

The real question is, where is he going to play in the lineup? If lizzo is out of commission, then we’re obviously down a Center, which means JAD is most likely centering the fourth line. So will Fagemo be playing wing with Lewis and JAD? Hopefully not, as that seems pointless for a guy whose niche is as a shooter.. so maybe it’ll be Laff/PLD/Sammy? We shall see..

Shoot, I guess if Durzi and his 49 points only got a second then this checks out. I think Arty would make a good complementary piece in a trade, however.

OK, need to bring up PLD again. This is going to be a long post bringing up a fair bit of stuff.

When the trade was rumored I was happy that the Kings were trying to make a move like this. When Vilardi (one of my favorite players) went the other way with all the other pieces, I hated the trade. Then I read some Jets forum posts and they seemed to hate the trade. They claimed that PLD was the best player for much of last year. Also heard rumors about Vilardi and thought maybe this was the right move to make. When Vilardi signed for 3.5ish per year I was thinking WTF, becuase I was hearing he may want 5+mi? This made things worse for me. Anyway, I then tried to look on the bright side of things and was excited to see what PLD was going to bring to this team. 2nd line center and all that jazz.

Coming into training camp there were some red flags that I noticed. As we all know PLD was interviewed a lot both locally, and league wide. What caught my attention was he seemed to be most happy about living at the beach and all the cool things to do in the area. I got the sense that he wanted to come to the Kings for the LA lifestyle, as much if not more than winning.

As the season has gone one, PLD has done some good things on the ice. Showed signs of life. However, we all know what he has been bringing to this team. We are not blind and being in the back half of the season with not much to show for it, this trade is looking to be the worst LA Kings trade in a long while.

On to the trade. Why did Blake make this trade? Regardless if there were issues with Vilardi, why go after PLD. Actually, lets take a step back a bit. Whey did Luc hire Marc Bergevin? It is not like he was successful in Montreal. There are many reports that claim PLD was always a target of Bergevin's when he was at Montreal. Is he the one that pushed for this trade? Got Luc to buy in and then they both pushed Blake to make this stupid trade?

What would this team look like with Vilardi in place of PLD? (they probably still needed to move Durzi and Iafallo anyway.) The team would not be in cap hell, could have been in a position of adding at the deadline. This team still needs a good mobile LHD.

This team has lost 11 of 13 games. Something has got to give. Cannot undo what was done over the summer. Todd is the easy target to go after. If Luc and Bergevin are the ones behind this PLD trade then those two need to go. If it was all Blake, then by Rob and might as well take Todd with you.

Ok, off the soapbox.

I know it's just piling on but the last goal against, when Jim showed the replay and out of position Clark was, the back check of PLD was non existent.
I saw that too, PLD could have hustled to catch up to the play (seeing as Clark was out of position) but he just floating back and watched instead. Kings what PLD is know for, floating and watching...
