I am 100% behind hiring Gallant. He's exactly what this team needs, IMHO.

See, that was my point in the other thread. How much is Rob the rookie GM to blame and how much are other people in the organization to blame? There were some great moves he did, and there were some disasters, and I have a hard time believing the same guy was truly behind all of them.

Ilya, PLD, even Fiala (though for an offensively very challenged team that move was understandable)...moves that, in hindsight, yes, smell of "we need stars in LA" mentality, with building a contender not a true priority.

And yes, if those "other people" won't go and only Rob will be let go (if)- THAT is what should worry Kings fans. I suggest you, diehards, should start a petition...not sure anyone smart enough will listen, though...

Bottom line is...Rob shouldn't have quit and then tell you fans that Luc is the bad guy. That's not how one builds himself another shot at a GM position.

The 6-7 million in cap space for the next 7 years could be spent on a puck-moving LD or a center with size who actually competes every shift/game or a plethora of other NHL players. This is the point of the buyout. At its peak of 3.8M for two years you’re still saving 4.7M and more/much more the other years. You could well pay Turcotte 4.5M by then and still be in better shape than have this parasite on the team.

Because next part of this equation is this guy hurts you more than helps, even with more points coming. You cannot have a player who quits on plays the way he does and build a winning team. All this talk about buy-in and game management? When the highest paid forward next year simply doesn’t care, how can you hold anyone else truly accountable? They just have to suck it up, work hard, and watch him get paid fat. Just not how it works.

Also, buying him out and kicking him off the beach is a pretty good message for everyone else that an attitude like that is unacceptable.

I didn't disagree with the premise of buying out PLD and that he turned out a massive flop.

That's an overpayment IMO. Never happen. Now if you drop the requirement of the bag it might actually work.

Good article there on the PLD situation. Although, I've heard the buyout might not be 1/3 of the total as Duhatschek mentions. Not sure about this though....I heard it on a podcast yesterday. It might actually be 2/3 due to PLD's birthdate relative to the end of the NHL year on June 30th.

Anywho, I can say that having Gallant as coach is a good idea....

There is an opportunity cost with literally every player on the roster not just Dubois and his $8M cap hit. Cutting him to guarantee a savings because he had an outlier season is shortsighted. It’s actually nothing like the Mike Richards scenario. Richards production was already in decline prior to joining the Kings. His on-ice game really slipped after 2012 and his off-ice issues were established many years prior to his arrest.

Dubois production /60 has been consistent since his second year minus the Covid year and this season. He is who he is. That stability is valuable especially at his age and when you consider the other tangibles to his game there will always be demand for his services.

He is a $6M dollar player as a free agent even with the stink of this season on him. Guaranteed. Yes, Blake did overpay him but that’s the penalty the Kings have to pay for free agents.

If the Kings change their organizational approach to generating offense the team is better with him at his bloated cap hit than buying him out. If they don’t change their approach then I’m right there with you on the buyout.

Trevor Moore was significantly worse than Dubois in the playoffs and they both stunk.

According to everything I heard, Blake is sticking around. And if he's sticking around, PLD isn't getting bought out. Which means they need to utilize him better. He is responsible for his sh*tty play, but they tried to shove a square peg into a round hole on top of it. He is still more than capable of putting up 60-70 points, but he needs wings that can finish and he needs PP time. I'd be interested in seeing what he could do with Fagemo on his wing.

The buyout window starts after the playoffs end. So if all the series go 7 games and the last Cup Finals game is on 6/24, then the Kings are screwed.

We'll have to agree to disagree. He's the Huberdeau of 2024. So either the worst or 2nd worst contract in the NHL. There is no way he is a $6M guy. He's the 7th best forward after Byfield, Kopi, Kempe, Danualt, Moore, and Arvy. He's a big guy with no interest in going into the dirty areas or separating opponents from the puck. He has a lot of skill and generates some high-danger opportunities but I don't see how the pluses come close to offsetting the minuses.
