PLD for Kuemper

I would love to hear the real back story on this. The trade tree on this PLD deal just gets better & better. So, Blake trades the future of the franchise (and perhaps his position as GM) for a 34 year-old goalie in the twilight of his career. Wow…just….wow
The window to trade PLD was rapidly closing. So options were limited. I’m sure this the best of the worst options because the team clearly lost or never established any faith in the player.

Darcy Kuemper is 34 years old. Signed for 3 more years at 5.25M cap hit and he’s coming off an .890 save % season.

Kings save 3.25 million per year on the deal and 4 years. The biggest issue with PLD is he showed me zero compete. Contrast that to guys like Danault and Moore. I feel like the Kings identity has been a hard working team. In a perfect world, we are Florida-like. It is hard to credibly play that way when your highest paid center is regularly getting outhustled.
Kuemper definitely got exposed on the glove side a bunch. Hopefully the Kings coaching staff can work with him on stops and rebound control. He also had problems with letting in softies last year (low and medium danger chances hurt him). Keumper is going to be overpaid but he played to his contract 2 years ago and I'm more comfortable with Keumper and Rittich than Talbott and Rittich. Not 3.25 million more comfortable when considering DK vs CT cap hits, but still more comfortable.

I bet Kuemper gets bought out. If not this summer definitely next.

I was so excited to see this move that I had to re-register my account as I've been lurking for years and must have died from lack of activity.

As we bid a fond farewell to PLD, here are a couple videos to remind us of all his qualities:

Cap's board on Reddit is a mixed bag of feelings. Some people feel that PLD can be fixed, some are baffled about trading a bad contract for a worse contract.

Trading Dubois for $3MM of cap space and not getting any player in return is a good trade. If DK is gonna suck, hopefully he plays his way off the team in pre-season.

Washington has a lot of free money after Backstrom on LTIR and could end career and Kuznetzov trade to Carolina, but Blake WTF you doing

I think he was trying for Jacob Marrkstrom. Once he got traded to the Devils earlier this morning, this was going to be the best he could do. Sometimes a change of scenery and hopefully once Roy is gone, and the cap hit savings, maybe we could get some defensemen to help him out.

Honestly good on Blake for this move, now when Vito and Ice pick come visit you they will only put one of your balls in the vice for the original trade instead of both of them.
