PLD for Kuemper

The trade gives Blake one more kick at the can to acquire a long term forward contract to fill in the offensive gap post Kopitar. Obviously Blake thought PLD was going to be that guy but maybe a guy like Necas is a better fit.

I wonder what it was take to get Patrick Laine…

I cannot stand the way Blake answers questions in these settings. It’s so needlessly evasive/dismissive and borderline disrespectful however two reporters asked the same dumb question about buying out or releasing PLD and I felt his response was justified.

Can we please get better questions for once?
It's blowhard LA reporters. We're not getting hard hitting questions.

Most fans are bitching about basically trading Villardi, Iafallo, Kupari & Durzi for Darcy....
Yeah. That’s a lot for Darcy.
But, Kupari is a bust.
Durzi is addition by subtraction.
Iafallo is probably overpaid and is kinda easily replaced for less money.
Vilardi is really what they gave up. And who knows how his career will go. But it does sting a bit that he’s not here.

I have to call it now so I can tell everyone they were wrong. PLD will have a career year next season! If not we still win.

I think he was trying for Jacob Marrkstrom. Once he got traded to the Devils earlier this morning, this was going to be the best he could do. Sometimes a change of scenery and hopefully once Roy is gone, and the cap hit savings, maybe we could get some defensemen to help him out.
I would have LOVED to have Markstrom 2-3 years ago, whenever it was he got traded from the Canucks. Not sure about now. Hopefully Kuemper can be his pretty-good-19-game self from his previous stint here. At least he always seemed like a really nice guy, too.

I would take Necas over Laine. Necas was great on the Canes last season and is a hustler a'la Trevor Moore.

Good discussion. Zach Dooley as usual is insightful, concise and generally a pleasure to listen to can’t say the same about the other host.

This trade is like tossing a pile of sand on top of a giant dog crap at the beach.

Sure you are grateful you no longer have to smell and see the dog crap, but under that thin cover of sand is still a massive crap.

PLD is gone, but the assets used to acquire are never coming back.
In the end, Alex Iafallo, Gabriel Vilardi, Rasmus Kupari and a 2024 second-round pick for Darcy Kuemper. All that for Kuemper.
Horrible asset management for a GM.

Amazing Blake still has a job.
