I thought of adding this to the Fire Jim Hiller thread but there’s more to it than that and feels worthy of discussion on multiple fronts. Really interesting read:
Podkolzin’s future with the Oilers
On one hand he says the only team he was really worried about was the Kings. He called Gavrikov-Edmundson the best shutdown pair in the league.
He then says the turning point was Hiller challenging the goal in the third game where we get this gem, or dagger:
“After the game, I was joking with Gavrikov, like, ‘You guys should fire your video coach for that.’ And from that moment on, we really took off — we won every remaining game.”
Podkolzin also describes the FL defense and goaltending. It could have come from any team talking about the Kings in 2012. Cool, honest insight from a player. Kings part starts about midway through.
