In a story that mirrors what’s happening with their parent club at the NHL level, coach Marco Sturm finds his Reign squad entering play tonight fresh off their best performance of the 2024-25 season. Friday evening in Henderson, it was Ontario who skated off with a 4-1 victory.
Those same two teams will now play the back half of a home-and-home weekend series.
With little time between games, we’re not expecting Sturm to make too many lineup changes, if any at all. Aatu Jamsen would be the most likely forward to draw in should there be a change up front. On defense, fellow Kings prospect Jakub Dvorak could be asked to rejoin the blueline group.
In goal, it would be most common for Sturm to play veteran Pheonix Copley after second-year pro Erik Portillo started in net on Friday. However, given Portillo’s limited action this season — just two games due to an extended illness — possible fatigue may not be a factor.
Speaking of the 6-foot-5 netminder, he is expected to debut his new mask soon. Dave Art, who has been doing Portillo’s masks since 2017, back when he was still in Sweden, just released the following video and pictures:
