QB's next Contract (Extended 5 yrs)

LMAO remember the LGK uproar because we signed Danault after his amazing Stanley Cup run in 2020-2021 and clearly people didn't watch him play? "HE ONLY SCORED 5 GOALS!!!"
Some fans can only see goals as a marker, particularly when it comes to defensemen.

Speaking of Danault, that was a really good acquisition. I admire how he shows up with the same game every night.

I think that uproar was worse when DL traded for Williams.
There was definitely reason to question that deal because Williams had suffered 2 significant leg injuries. And part of that speculation was actually true. Stick was never the same exceptionally speedy and smooth skater he had been in Carolina. Instead, he reinvented himself in L.A. and became an even better hockey player despite his previous injury history. Lombardi rolled the dice and came up a big winner by moving fan favorite for “damaged goods”. This move and the Richards trade were the best decisions Dean made in restructuring the team.

Gotta feel for POS and what he went through. Then, the poor guy was in the AHL when the Kings won their first cup.
Will always wish it had been Moller in that trade, but then who knows if it still would have worked. Sutter and O’Sullivan, oof.

Plus, his first full season in LA, Williams broke his leg. Ultimately with him, it became a matter of will over skill (though he certainly still had plenty of the latter). His acquisition was a huge leap forward in building the culture of that group.

ACL/MCL in 2003. ACL/MCL again in 2007. Achilles tear in 2008. Followed by the broken leg in 2009/2010.

It's amazing he ever played again. Talk about a will to win... wow!

Apologies for briefly hijacking the thread, but this is JW we are talking about...

The -incomparable- JW can hijack any goddamn thread he pleases, from here unto eternity.

Agree! Although the trade where we got the warriors Greene and Stoll for Visnovsky was pretty damn good too!

Oh, I agree! That was the next best move of the Lombardi era. Along with their on ice attributes, Greene and Stoll brought much-needed accountability to the locker room. The 2012 Cup team was one of the best “constructed” 23-man rosters in recent NHL history - once all the various pieces had been completely assembled. Lombardi was definitely a man on a hot streak in those heady years! Seemed he could do no wrong.
