Yes, with arbitration rights. His qualifying offer would have been around $1.6 million.

Getting very tight up against that cap. Particularly painful is the 2 million burned between phaneuf and Richards. That extra cheese would be especially useful right about now. Ouch..

Yep, I said at the time that the Phaneuf buyout was stupid. Either let him mentor the kids or just sit at home and do nothing while we sent him to Ontario on paper. I remember Lisa Dillman replying to me in the Athletic that he had a NMC so couldn't be sent down. Which is untrue, he could not be sent down without approval. But I think Dion would approve if we were saying, go hang out with your lovely wife and kids and collect 7M. It is moot point now but a million bucks would be nice right now.

Thankfully next season its 1.2 million with Dion off the books and Richards goes down to 700,000.
