After reading the murder stats for Chicago in the "Bizarre and Wtf" thread, my first thought was they need to drop a few tons of weed around and chill the F--- out.

But I maybe I'm wrong about that. And I'm not really interested in the right or wrong politics. I just want to know what, if any, effects police experience.

So I ask you, LGK Law Enforcement persons, how has the pseudo-legalization effected your job? Has it made a difference in your day to day interactions?
Has dui marijuana become rampant? Is it in addition to other dui substances, or replacing them?

OK, since I have been retired or partially as I still am active as a Reserve Deputy, here's my thoughts.
The so called legalization (medical marijuana) has had these effects on society through my most recent experiences. It has to be "recommended" not prescribed as many think, to just about anyone who goes to a Dr and asks for it, i.e. a waitress who spend 8 hours a day on her feet, a 21 year old male who had no problem sprinting up a flight of stairs to make his purchase close to closing time at a dispensary for his chronic back problems, too many to mention for stress, you name it.
The point here is the Dr makes about $50.00 to recommend it (Rx charge). When they first started, it was $100.00 for an annual Rx, then it was changed to quarterly so the Drs doubled up.
The two big ones I have seen, is it is being purchased by certain people over the age on 21 and being resold to teenagers, and the dispensary owners have been skimming off the top, i.e. a baggie selling for $50.00 all of a sudden becomes 75 or 100 shortly before closing time. Only the original 50 is on the books. We served search warrants at a dispensary and an owners home at the same time finding over 600 thousand in unaccounted for cash at the home, and over 100 thousand on site.
Anyone can do the math here
The amazing part is that if Cal went into the business legally, we could clear up our state's debt and have a huge pot (no pun intended) to do whatever we needed to do. It is still our largest cash crop.
Now when I was working Narco in the early 80s, the T.H.C. content was less than 10%. Today, thanks to all of our chemistry majors, that content exceeds 35%. Better things for better living through chemistry.
Meth and the designer drugs that show up in the streets, are the biggest problem as far as violent acts and violence in general is concerned.
Never worked traffic so I'm not up to speed on the dui related problems with weed. Don't hesitate to PM me if you need a question answered

Damn, I need to get in the weed selling business.

Ty JC.
Interesting about it still having under the table elements. Never heard or thought about that. I just assumed that since it's so easy to get a card, it's become essentially legal and that type of monkey business would fade away.

Until the Feds legalize it, this b.s. will continue. You do know that each of the states that have legalized still can't do business with a bank. They are Federally insured and it's against the Federal law, so they have to deal with cash, a lot of cash. So do you think there would be the slightest possibility that maybe, just maybe some of that cash will suddenly disappear? Not to mention the problem the neighboring states are having from the traffic to and from

People will assume you have cash stashed.
Thank you for reminding me. Quite a few of these home invasion robberies are tied to dispensary owners. Someone gets an "inside tip" that cash is being stored in the house.

This. And it would work just as well on a national level.

Big article in the L.A. Times rag today on the pot business. The author did mention, and only mention, about pot being a gateway drug. I do know that over half (most likely higher) of whom have smoked or imbibed, have tried a stronger drug after marijuana. I am NOT saying they are addicted here, just stating a fact. The actual research says that the edibles are the most effective for pain. Some say that smoking only get you so ****ed up that you forget the pain.

Over half of those who have tried milk have also moved on to stronger drinks such as coffee or alcohol. Milk is a gateway beverage.

what about people who eat thc laced brownies in amsterdam, freak out, strip down and attempt to run out into the street completely naked and screaming about whatever it was that was after him?

happened to an acquaintance of mine. his wife was totally unaffected but he was either new to it in general or intolerant of that particular strain. she had to do everything she could to not get him arrested or make a complete fool of himself while they were vacationing.

JC,
Have you run into anyone tripping out on edibles?
Actually, how often do you run into people who are 'altered' to the point of incoherence?
Percentage breakdown of causes?

Again, I have yet to see a marijuana or heroin freak out. I have no idea what could have been in the brownie, especially in a foreign country. Too many to list on L.S.D., P.C.P., Coke, and the assorted pills so frequently used. With the downers, most go "on the nod" i.e. looking like they are barely awake, heavy droopy eyelids, drooling, bloodshot watery eyes, etc. With the uppers, you can NEVER tell. I actually had a guy on P.C.P. who stripped down (they get extremely overheated) to bare a$$ and was punching car windshields travelling down a major east/west street with his bare hands. Finally got (herded) him into an AM/PM parking lot where he attacked my partner. I've seen 100's so screwed up on P.C.P. and coke they didn't know who they were, where they lived, etc
I had a guy freak out at the Grateful Dead concert at The Dominguez Hills college venue about 4 hours before the concert was to start. He was one of the set up guys. He went running around naked, screaming, trying to tear things down. We finally got him subdued and got him over to the "Pig Pen" Yes, that was the name of the area for the medical people trying to deal with L.S.D. o.d.s
In my day, the most "ideal" time for lack of a better term, was in the summer, on a Friday or Saturday night, WARM, and right after the welfare checks came out. A lot of Deps also said it was a full moon. True statement

I am not into pot or hookers, but man, if I ever visit Amsterdam, I'll be Red Zonin', Pot Brownie Eatin', and Wooded Shoe Dancin' like nobody's bussiness! :awesome:
