Vancouver defeated LA 1:36 into OT on Tuesday, snapping LA’s two-game win streak in the process.

Trevor Moore opened the scoring in the first period, followed by a game-tying goal by Elias Pettersson – who was just signed to an eight-year extension – in the second.

As has been the case many times this season, the Kings played a strong 60 minutes but made mistakes in the extra frame; Kevin Fiala took a holding penalty and the Canucks scored on the delayed call.

Tuesday night’s game against Vancouver saw LA fail to carry over the offensive production they’ve shown in the past couple of games. The Kings were only able to muster 24 shots on goal.

Trouble Finishing: In addition to those 24 SOGs, the Kings hit a post and crossbar in the third period, as well as a missed opportunity from Alex Turcotte on a 2-on-1. It’s encouraging they were able to generate dangerous opportunities, but converting on these is an area LA will look to improve on in the next few games

Updated Look At The Pacific: By collecting a point on Tuesday, the Kings jumped ahead of the Golden Knights for third place in the Pacific Division. Vancouver still sits atop the division with 87 points, followed by Edmonton with 78, while LA and Vegas each have 73 (LA has one game in hand). There’s still a ways to go in the season, but a third straight matchup between the Kings and Oilers looks like an increasing possibility.

Stat Sheet Takeaways: Brandt Clarke played only 7:06 on Tuesday, less than half of his season average of 14:34. One reason for this is the Kings only had one power play vs. Vancouver, where Clarke is a mainstay on the second unit. It’ll be interesting to see if his limited usage on Tuesday was a one-off or if his minutes will continue to be reduced going forward.

Schedule On Their Side: Six of the next eight games for the Kings are against teams currently out of the playoffs. LA will need to collect as many points as possible to set the tone for the rest of the regular season and into the postseason.
