There are no moral victories in sports, so Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Devils likely left the Kings more frustrated than they’ve already been of late.

Riding a seven-game point streak, yet still searching for a consistent 60-minute effort — and their first win on home ice — LA was on their heels from nearly the opening puck drop. A little more than a minute into the game, coach Jim Hiller saw his club give up an early goal, giving New Jersey a 1-0 lead.

In total, the Kings did what would have suggested they’d win. Hiller’s club outshot the Devils 44-22. They also beat them in the faceoff circle, taking 55% of the draws. Special Teams were the difference, though. Although LA’s penalty kill was never tested, they went 0-for-4 on the power play, as New Jersey shut them down at every turn.

Additional game notes:

— Corey Perry’s five-game point streak ended.

— Andrei Kuzmenko scored his third goal of the season, the 75th of his NHL career.

— Anze Kopitar picked up his sixth assist of the season, giving him at least one assist in every home game played thus far in 2025-26.

— Alex Laferriere’s assist on the Kuzmenko goal gave the New Jersey native three points in five career games against the Devils.
