Any joy that the Ontario Reign were feeling just 24 hours ago has at least been put on hold. Just one night after a decisive 5-1 victory over the Wranglers, coach Andrew Lord saw his team down 2-0 midway through Wednesday’s rematch. Akil Thomas made things interesting with a goal late in the middle frame to draw them within one heading into second intermission. Kings prospect Jakub Dvorak then tied the game up with his second goal of the season. However, that optimism was short lived. Less than two minutes later, Calgary converted on the power play and their 3-2 lead held as the final score.

Wednesday’s other key takeaway surrounds the health of goaltender Erik Portillo. He left the game after facing only two shots. No update was available postgame, as the team is awaiting further tests on the 24-year-old netminder.

Kings prospect Erik Portillo left tonight's Reign game in Calgary after facing only two shots and playing just 2:51.

Not a good sign.

Veteran Pheonix Copley came on in relief and stopped 27-of-20 shots.
