It was a rough 2025 for Kings prospect Erik Portillo, who had multiple injuries causing him to miss several months over two different seasons. At least for one day, that was all old news. The 25-year-old netminder kicked off his 2026 in fine style, picking up a 3-0 victory over the visiting Iowa Wild on Sunday afternoon at Toyota Arena.
For the 6-foot-6 native of Sweden, it was his first start in more than six weeks, and his first shutout in nearly two years. Portillo made 19 saves in the game and helped shutdown all five Iowa power plays.
Andrew Lord on Erik Portillo's performance tonight: "Yeah, that was awesome. [Portillo] is one of the best competitors I've coached. He's just all in, and credit to him, going through a fairly significant recovery process there. Taking a couple of months and to play the way he…

Erik Portillo on his shutout tonight: "Just personally and as a team, we did a great job today, and we came together. You know, this was the fourth game this week. It was a great effort from the group."
A1 team guy.

All around, it was a good night for coach Andrew Lord’s group. In addition to the stellar defensive effort, Ontario received some offensive help from a pair of familiar faces. Kings prospect Martin Chromiak added two goals, while Andre Lee converted on the power play once again. He continues to lead the Reign in goals and points.
Other Game Notes
— Ontario recorded 29 shots on goal.
— The Reign went 1-for-4 with the man advantage. Meanwhile, much like their parent club in LA, the penalty kill continues to be a strength for Ontario (with the Reign PK sitting at 83% on the season, third best in the Pacific Division).
— Lee now has seven goals in his past eight games and has climbed into the Top 10 for goal scoring in the entire AHL.
— In a rare scheduling fluke, the Reign and Wild will play again on Wednesday. It isn’t very common for a team to travel out of their division and then have two days off before playing the same team again. Their Wednesday rematch will be the final time they faceoff in California this season. They will play a pair of games in Iowa come late March.
