Anybody ready to have some fun?

Building upon our previous report from October, Mayor’s Manor has now confirmed the Kings and Ducks will play a ‘color rush’ game on January 16.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, it’s an idea largely popularized by the NFL on Thursday Night Football, where both teams involved wear a colored jersey (i.e. neither side is wearing white).

The Kings have been toying with doing something like this for a few years now and have flirted with several different ideas. Now, it’s coming to life on the ice.

To get away from the NHL’s traditional home jersey vs. road jersey approach, all changes must be approved by the league — as well as coordinated with the opposing team’s travel gear, which extends beyond just the jersey a team is wearing. Hence, getting this pushed through isn’t as easy as it might seem.

Thankfully, the Kings have already been able to get several jersey related items approved by the NHL this season. As we reported a few months ago, LA is set to wear their new crown jersey more than the usual 15-time limit, including two upcoming road games: Dec. 29 in Colorado and Jan. 17 at Anaheim.

The color rush game will be part of a special home-and-home weekend with the Ducks. They’ll first play at Crypto.com Arena on Friday — wearing black vs. orange jerseys. Then, the two Southern California rivals will square off the next day in Anaheim — with LA wearing their black crown jerseys on the road.

Based upon fan feedback and interest, there is potential for additional color rush games in the future. How about a game vs. the Sharks and their teal jerseys?
