Resigning Scott Laughton

Looking at the state of that team why in the He double hockey sticks would he want to play there? (Sure he's from the area but still they are going to suck for a long time).
Laughton is a FA at end of year. He is likely looking at the last multi-year contract of his career and hopes to maximize the value. So of course he’s going to cast a wide net in terms of suitors and not exclude any potential offers.

Agreed and this worries me a bit. Anything over $5m AAV for Laughton and I'd prefer to stick with Turcotte instead and invest that money into improving our D (the loose consensus is between $3.5-4m AAV but that is if he were to sign today, before a cap increase).

I like Laughton a lot but think he may get some pretty crazy offers this summer, and it looks like he has no intention to lock in a contract with the Kings beforehand.

Full transparency, I am also a big fan of Turcotte and the potential he carries.

Yeah, Laughton is playing it wisely. At some point my hope is that he ultimately wants to go to a contender. Unfortunately he (his agent actually) will use any team with any interest to inflate the cost and that’s where the fear of 5M per year comes from, and I don’t really see that as sensible.
It would be great if the Kings could lock him up now, but that means Laughton is leaving real money on the table. I don’t fault him for any of it.
