Wow...and I thought the Kings' first round pick had a difficult name. Who's the poor soul taking Nick Nickson's place next season?

Sounds like Austin Wagner. Hopefully that's not his ceiling.

Ugh. If he's like Austin Wagner, then this is a bad pick made by Holland. Wagner was such a bad anomaly of a player that I don't even want to relish the thought of seeing a speedy yet oxymoronically offense-inept player to grace the ice. Not to mention lacking in grit and sandpaper to keep up with the more unsavory players in the league. Unless he makes significant developments in his game, Cihar might as well be an AHL-only player if that's how his profile describes him.

Wagner was not a bad pick. Most 4th rounders never get near enough to sniff the NHL.

Wagner looked like a sniper with that blazingly quick speed he had yet he oxymoronically lacked the scoring finish whenever he had the puck in the O-zone; hence he more often than not cost his team a win at critical times. Part of the problem with him was that he either wasn't developed properly or the Kings/Reign mis-utilized him when he was assigned to a particular line. He's been a career AHLer who couldn't crack into a regular NHL team lineup and still is a questionable pick, unfortunately. One of the big misses of the Lombardi era.

Once again. He was a 4th rounder, only 11% of the guys drafted in that round are still in the NHL with more games than he had. How exactly is that a big miss. 11% success is normal for the 4th round for 100 games and Wagner had 178.

He was in the NHL, but ultimately the Kings were a losing team with him on the roster and he ended up being traded for "future considerations", which I can't even find what they were, so I presume the condition was not met.

So he definitely wasn't a "success" even if he played in the NHL. There are usually quite a few players on the UFA market each year that would gladly play in the NHL for 1 million and something $/year on a 4th line that would at least bring some toughness along with good speed and zero offense.

IMO you pick players like Wagner in rounds 6 or 7. BUT - I've only now had the time to read a bit more about Cihar apart from the eliteprospects short scout report and the scouts consider him a versatile forward with great skating, motor, good two-way game AND he plays physical, so that's already better than Wagner. He also supposedly has no glaring weaknesses in his game. So I really hope they're not wrong and he can improve his offensive game further and be a middle-6 forward in the NHL eventually.

Wagner's problem was that he was too fast for his hands. He'd speed up the ice on a breakaway. And by the time he could get a handle on the puck he was too far in to do anything. Plus nobody else on the team could keep up. If he would've slowed down just a little he might have done better at scoring. Or if someone would've kept up with him he could've gone in & passed the puck back while driving to the net. I still liked watching him even if he didn't amount to much in the NHL.
