When the Reign and Gulls hook up, it’s almost always a great game, as Ontario vs. San Diego remains one of the AHL’s best rivalries. Come pick drop on Saturday night, coach Marco Sturm is only focused on one thing, though — earning another two points.

His club enters play coming off a loss to Texas earlier in the week. Prior to that, they had one a season-high four straight games. One of those victories was a 4-1 Reign win at Pechenga Arena two weeks ago.

Goaltender Erik Portillo backstopped Ontario for that game and Sturm is expected to give him the crease again tonight, after Portillo spent much of the past weeks up with the Kings while Darcy Kuemper was on the mend.

Andre Lee has only played two games for the Reign this season. One of them — and the last one — was the same aforementioned game in San Diego last month. While the 6-foot-5 forward will draw in for Sturm again tonight, this could possibly be a one-game situation. While the rest of the team will travel home to Toyota Arena for a game vs. Bakersfield on Sunday, Lee may rejoin the Kings for their east coast road trip.
