The comet may have been done for even before it made its close approach to the sun, he noted. "It appears that all of the water [in the comet] evaporated before it even got to perihelion," Pesnell said. "The ice is the cement that holds the comet together."

Makes me wonder if Ison's debris trajectory and its slower speed put it closer to Earth. Orignal trajectory had it passing 40 million miles slightly over and ahead of Earth.

This stuff is amazing, but I never seem to find any articles within 2013 that expand on it. I really wanted to find out where to buy a spidergoat.
