Lockheed Martin reveals their work on a Compact Fusion Reactor, which they say could prototype in 10 years. It is interesting in that it doesn't use a tokamak design, but something more like a tube shaped field which allows for a smaller reactor with a higher plasma ratio. I'll believe it when we see it, but it is encouraging that the perpetual "40 years away" timeline that has existed for fusion reactors since the 1970s or so may finally be reducing to a perpetual 10 years away ;)

I was kinda joking since the results of the ice bucket challenge won't be seen in research for at least another 3-5 years. If it hits while there's lots of avenues to explore however it could be extremely fortuitous instead of everyone clamoring to break the same research.
