Science!!!

That article was at tad rank with the exact problem that NDT was talking about in the second bit. A little too gird your loins for a minority to ever reach out with. The problem is that both sides pro science and pro ..."daddy said" are both interested in conformity to "facts" when the reality is teaching critical thinking has been the single biggest reason that even with all of Asia's outperformance over american schoolchildren they still simply cannot innovate like folks here can.

The other major issue I have is with the implications of the notion of scientific spending against the military budget. While true that the basic science expenditures of the federal government are something that I personally believe are simply a good investment and should be expanded, military research spending typically builds off of that research with dedicated calls to take the now peer reviewed science that may be applicable to their own interests and drive it to a useful end in their eyes. Surprisingly enough those ends are not always to create a death star. Military research spending does end up convoluted with purchase contracts for items so it's hard to tell exactly how much it is, but it's not insignificant and believe me there is plenty that the military doesn't realize is applicable to the commercial sector that doesn't end up wandering off that way eventually.

Anyway checking sources is all fine and good. Not trusting big pharma is cool. But the reality is both sides are scared of really teaching children to think for themselves while wanting them to do exactly that and it will be the continuing problem of our lifetime and beyond.
