Should we start thinking of the Kings as... "contenders"?

Martin Biron recently picked LA as one of the five teams who could win the cup. No groundbreaking analysis or anything, but been a long time since we've been in any of these conversations.

Interesting that we're in there, but not Vegas, Edmonton or Seattle. It is nice to get some national media attention either way.

We're starting to look like the 2014 Kings in the sense that the Kings play determines if they win or lose. The opponent is irrelevant if the Kings execute. Things I like about this team: 1) best top 9 in the NHL, 2) multiple players excel at winning 50/50 board battles so Kings tend to dominate possession, 3) finally getting good goaltending.

Kings are not a favorite but definitely better than the +3000 current odds. How the heck are Minnesota (can't score) and Calgary (suck) favored over LA?

Very early, but in two games Korpisalo has stopped 52 of 56 shots for a .928 SV%.

What do we do about this now? I know it's too soon for the word controversy, but to the eye test he looks like a clear upgrade from Copley.

Pretty sure Blake obtained him with the idea that he'd be an upgrade over Copley. I assume if he continues in this manner, he'll be anointed as the No. 1 come playoff time. Especially considering Copley has never been in the playoffs and while Korpisalo has only been in 9 playoff games, he posted a .941 SV%.

There's a reason Korpi started vs. Colorado in Denver regardless of rotation or whatever the coaches will say publicly. He's going to get every opportunity to take the #1 spot leading up to the playoffs. He passed a very big test with flying colors.

I haven't seen Copley lose in a while, so I believe they are neck and neck. Also having a new defenseman, helps both of their games.

Iafallo is the same player he's always been. 15-20 goal scorer. 45-50 point scoring rate. Responsible in his own zone. Very low maintenance. The "problem" is the team now has much better options at wing for the top 2 lines. So Iafallo is now a very expensive bottom six player with no particularly special skillset. It's a case of the team outgrowing the player.

I think this is a very good summation of the Iafallo situation. In the down years, he was a great fix on the wing for the top two lines, but with the Kings external acquisitions and internal growth at the forward position, he's being made redundant, especially at his price tag. That being said, come playoff time, he's going to be a nice luxury to have, but during the regular season, he is a cap constraint waiting to happen
