Slukynsky (and brother) Signed

Great news! Now trading Carter or George is an option, especially since the Finnish guy is also on a very good trajectory.
Exactly. Would be ideal to see them split time in the A next year but this officially opens the trade window.

Between Slukinsky, George, & Rimpanen they need to. make a decision. You can't play all 3. We need to use 1 of them to improve the roster.

You forgot Carter! ;)

I agree.

Ken needs to be aggressive. He should find a taker for either Kuemper or Forsberg, give Portillo a chance, all while Slukynsky gets a year in the AHL.

Rimpinen is fine in Liiga, maybe he even finds a way into SHL. He can be a longer term project.

Carter seems to be the odd guy out. The only question is whether you give him a year to battle it out with Hammer in the AHL or not...

Totally agree that a trade of either Kuemper or Forsberg makes sense. Personally I would like to see Carter and Slukynsky have a chance to battle it out before moving either one.

Slukynsky looks like the real deal, but we have been fooled by goalies before...

I don't think having Slukynsky & George battle it out is a good idea. They shouldn't worry about which one is the right one or the wrong one. Either one is the right one. Whichever one you can get the most for is who you should trade.

All goalies need to be held, developed and evaluted as long as possible. Bigger sample, better info, and bigger returns.
Yes one of Kuemper or Forsb needs to be traded and Portillo given a shot.
Kind of gnarly to have to super young goalies with Reign. Holland 👀

No, absolutely not. Right now you have 2 goalie prospects of equally high value. If you have them battle it out for a long time, the only way it works is if both play the same number of games & are equally good in every way. But if one of those guys emerges as slightly better, you’ve just diminished the value of the 2nd goalie.

Just keep in mind that using that philosophy and applying it to the past, we would have kept Bernier and traded Quick. Had we done that, I have very little confidence that the Kings would have won the Cups in 2012 and 2014.

Having the right goalie is very impactful, while typically goalie prospects are extremely undervalued. In the average scenario, it just doesn't make sense to trade them early. Better to trade the known quantities and get a fair return instead.

But the Kings have poor asset assortment and need a center and D upgrade.

Don't sleep on Portillo and Rimpinen, either. And those two have much lower value in a trade compared to George...

Under my scenario that wouldn’t have happened. I would’ve offered them up at the same time & let the other team pick which one they wanted in exchange for the player I wanted. Most likely they would’ve picked Bernier since he was the higher draft pick. But also the scenarios aren’t the same. Quick was a year older & came out of college a year before Bernier came out of Juniors. That was why Quick got 1st crack at playing for the Kings. Slukinsky’s older but they’re coming in at the same time.

I see what everyone is saying. The problem is I don’t know of any examples where hanging on to 2 goalies has worked. If it has let me know. Most of the time teams hang on too long & they get to where they have to trade one or they get nothing. Or else their trade value is diminished. I want to trade one before we get to that point. I would also trust that the development staff is keeping an eye on both guys & is confident that either one will work out.

Ignoring Portillo and Rimpinen is IMO a huge mistake here, too. In reality, we're could be facing a 4-goalie battle if none is traded.

Portillo was an even more successful college goalie than Hammer, statistics wise (though it's true that I'm not familiar with quality of the teams they both had in front of them), and has already made a successful transition to the AHL. In his sole NHL game he was stellar to say the least. Low sample size, sure, but he rose to the occasion. If Ken doesn't give him a chance in the NHL next season I would be furious.

Rimpinen is a starter in Liiga at 19yo, though he has been worse in WJC this season compared to the previous one (where he was stellar).

No you are completely mostly wrong.
If the 2 are playing at a high and increasing level the value won't noticably change.
In fact you are labelled as having 2 #1 goalies.
Now that is currency for getting a haul back in a trade.
Couple of you guys are prematurely trade actionating.

Quick didn't get it shot based on that alone.
It was also or to an even greater example of how he was playing and the competitive nature he displayed at practice and in games. Kings took their time and made the crucial decision correctly. Now they are in the same situation x2 - 4 young gt's to as I stated, evaluate, develop and make a decision of who to set and who to jet.

Hampton won his AHL debut. Stopped 21 of 22 shots en route to a 4-1 win. First star of the game.

Coach was adjective heavy when describing him.

The guy is incredible. Only a few practices with us. I thought he was elite. I thought, as good as we were that first, 28 minutes or so, we were pretty poor the second half of the second. They put us under siege, once they got that first one, that gave them a little bit of a jolt. He made some really good saves there. I thought we started the third slow too. I thought the first couple minutes until that penalty, they also had some jam play, some stuff around our net and he was excellent. He’s phenomenal.
