My guess is that maybe they are ready to elevate Clarke's role to top 4 duty and after surveying the market they felt this was the most interested team and they did it before UFA so the Sens don't manage to fill this need via UFA/another trade.
Maybe we are overvaluing Spence's value in a trade.
