Now this season so far:

JOSH & JIM
JOHN & TONY
Mix in Daryl & Jarrett

Do we know why the organization is doing this?
I've read that it's "planned" - and I understand things come up (illness - family) but there's been 5 different pairs this season alone.

Does anyone have knowledge of why is is happening?
Is anyone else bugged by this besides me?

The Angels have been doing this the last 2-3 years. Is it a Network (Fanduel) thing?

IDK, but Tony is my least fave color commentator. I’d like to hear Josh/Stoll sometime.

Seems like on-air tryouts to me. Jim is retiring and they need to fill that role. Crazy though as you point out that after decades of normalcy it’s just a mishmash. It will settle but it is different.

Granato is actually my favorite stand-in, but he was also my favorite player growing up so that could be why. I'm a big fan of Josh on the PBP side.

Don't forget Bob and Nick from the 80's. No duo was better! As for current times, as others have said, probably an audition for longer term plans once Jim retires. John is probably a short term option (though quite good, certainly).

I'm not so sure about pbp. John is good but getting up there, if they like Josh why didn't they just go with him? Either they gave him pointers for what the organization wants or they just don't want him and are waiting for the right replacement?

John was obviously a bridge to a new generation and I can’t complain about that. Perhaps they thought Josh could use a bit more experience, or he is too young? Maybe they also knew John would miss some games and thought that would give Josh some real NHL game experience. In all honesty I can’t fault that approach. But I certainly believe Josh should be the next guy, and could have a long career as Kings PBP voice.

My guess is Josh was seen as too young. Stoll has come miles from his first attempts and if he wants the job they could definitely do worse. I really do like Josh's call and hope they keep him. Then again I do prefer guys that learned on radio calls as opposed to TV straight guys.

But someone check Foxys twatter, I thought he said somewhere that he knows it's getting close to stepping back time. Iirc he's the last of the lifetime contracts, don't think Daryl was in that territory but I could be wrong.

Stoll is the heir apparent in my mind. He’ll get better with time, just like Fox did.

It did wonders for the Lakers moving the color analyst for Chick Hearn to a coaching gig.

I have been a Kings fan since I was 6 or 7 years old (back in the 80's) and I must say, through all those years, I do not recall ever being as annoyed with the King's announcers than I have in recent years.
Sometimes I watch the opponents broadcast just so I don't get annoyed.
I am sure I am probably in the minority but I am not a fan of John. His frequent use of "the russian" "the german" etc. when referring to players on the opposing team just drives me crazy for some reason. To me, Tony's voice is just boring and fairly monotone and not what I want to hear when watching a game.
Nick needed to retire and Jim is not far behind.
I would have no problem with Daryl if I never had to look at him as I am one of those people that can't stand the idiotic suits he wears. I literally walk out of the room during intermission when I know he will be on screen. I wish I could block half the tv screen during intermission.
I do like the idea of Stoll and Josh and hopefully that will be the plan in the near future.

While we are on the topic of announcers...

I do wish Carrlyn would go back to the shorter bleached hair she had a couple seasons ago...but that's just me!
