We in Ventura County cannot express our thanks loudly enough and often enough to those who are defending our lives and property from the ravages of the Thomas Fire.

You are all heroes!!!

[/A drone has rescued two people from rough seas off the coast of Australia

Lifeguards testing out new drone technology in Australia have saved two people stranded off the coast of New South Wales state, as spotted by Quartz. The drone footage shows a birds-eye view of the ocean before the drone ejects the yellow floatation device, which inflates when it hits the water. The two teenage boys were caught about 700 meters (0.4 miles) offshore at Lennox Head in a swell of around three meters (9.8 feet). They were able to grab onto the floatation device and swim to shore.

Pomona police officer killed, another wounded by gunman during standoff at apartment

POMONA, Calif. (KABC) --
A Pomona Police Department officer has died and another has been hospitalized after both were shot during an ongoing standoff with a gunman at an apartment complex, officials announced early Saturday morning.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive," Police Chief Michael Olivieri said on Twitter. "The second officer is in stable condition."

The Los Angeles County coroner's office identified the slain policeman as Greggory Casillas, 30, of Upland.

Thoughts and prayers to Officer Casillas, his family & friends and to all my brothers and sisters at Pomona PD. :popo:

UPDATE: Suspect in custody without incident.....Tough guy ambushes the cops through a closed door but then gives up without a fight afraid to get shot..........

Tributes are pouring in for a French police officer who died saving the lives of hostages in a supermarket siege by an Islamist gunman on Friday.

Lt-Col Arnaud Beltrame, 44, was shot and stabbed after he traded places with one of the captives following a shooting spree in southern France

French Police spokesman Mr Collomb told reporters on Friday that police officers had managed to get some people out of the supermarket but the gunman had held one woman back as a human shield.

It was at this point, he said, that Col Beltrame had volunteered to swap himself for her.

As he did so, he left his mobile phone on a table with an open line so that police outside could monitor the situation.

When police heard gunshots, a tactical team stormed the supermarket. The gunman was killed and Col Beltrame was mortally wounded.

After the announcement of his death early on Saturday, France's Gendarmerie Nationale - a police force part of the military - honoured its fallen "comrade", saying Col Beltrame "gave his life for the freedom of the hostages"

Sandy Hook parents hit Alex Jones with defamation lawsuits

Alex Jones has spent years claiming the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School ― where a shooter killed 20 small children and six adults ― was faked. He has claimed the parents of these dead children are liars and “crisis actors.”

Now, those parents are coming after him.

In a pair of lawsuits filed late Monday, the parents of two children who died in the December 2012 shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, say Jones’ repeated lies and conspiratorial ravings have led to death threats. The suits join at least two other recent cases accusing the Infowars host of defamation.

I hope Jones gets destroyed!

Toronto police officer hailed as hero for arresting suspect in the murder of 10 people without firing shot

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/24/toronto-cananda-van-suspect-arrest

I am about to upset a lot of people right now but here goes,

No doubt this Toronto Police officer is a hero for capturing the suspect in the murder of 10 people but..........IMHO he is not a hero for capturing the suspect in the murder of 10 without firing a shot. You ask any police officer with at least 10 years on the job to watch the video in Santi's post and I guarantee you they will **** their pants and become sick to their stomach. Again far be it for me to MMQ this officers actions since I wasn't there, but yes I almost shat myself after watching this.

As far as I'm concerned this suspect should be dead and we should be calling the officer a hero for killing the suspect. This officer's actions are so tactically wrong I can't believe that this officer is still alive. The suspect has just killed 10 people so you already know his state of mind. This suspect is now pointing a dark object at the officer in a threatening manner all the while saying he has a gun in his pocket. (Suspect shot dead totally justified) The officer has now moved away from his cover to engage the potentially armed suspect almost at point blank range. The suspect continues to yell at the officer to kill him while making quick motions with his hand to his pocket 2 times both times returning his hand to a threatening position. (Again suspect shot dead totally justified) With no cover and the suspect still pointing the dark object at him (possibly a gun and even if the officer determined its not a gun the suspect still claims to have a gun in his pocket) the officer holsters his lethal weapon and grabs his ASP baton (non lethal) and verbally engages the suspect. Luckily the suspect gives up and the officer takes him into custody.

This officer took a huge gamble with his life and the lives of his partners and the public (which for some reason were walking around behind the possibly armed suspect) and won. We are not paid to take that big of a gamble with our lives or the lives of innocent citizens in that situation.

Unfortunately this officer will be and has been praised for his actions and this will be the standard used to judge all of the following possible deadly force encounters by police officers everywhere. His department has praised him for his "restraint and professionalism" and he will be the model that the younger officers will be encouraged to follow. One of these days this "model officer" is going be killed or be responsible for another officer being killed.

As far as I'm concerned this officer is playing Russian roulette with his life and one day he will "meet his maker" and then he will be praised again as a hero (a dead one) or maybe not.

Again this is a prime example of why I retired when I did. I knew I could not depend on the younger officers to protect and back me up in a life threatening situation because they will second guess themselves before acting. That second guess is the difference between me going home to Jr or being called a hero at my funeral.

I am so glad that I am retired but now I worry so much for my OG partners still working the beat in a very very different world.

Officer buys groceries for family in need after man?s card declined

Cleveland City Police Officer Mike Kelly was working security at a Walmart earlier this month when he noticed a man?s card get declined as he tried to buy groceries. As the family began walking out, the officer said the look on one of the children?s faces caught his attention."The little girl?s face got me, her eyes were welling up and it broke my heart. I felt God telling me, ?I put you up here for a reason,'" Kelly said. "I walked up to him, and said, 'Please let me bless you today.'"
