Fair points, but 7 years a long time to watch an noncompetitive team, and at the end it means nothing unless they win the Cup.

Meanwhile, the Kings were one head coach away from potentially going deep into the playoffs last season.

I think between the two, and as a fan, I'd go with the Kings these past seven years over the Ducks. Let's see, however, what the Ducks can do with it. Currently they have a younger, and more talented roster for the foreseeable future, a superior head coach, a superior GM and what seems to be a superior front office. The future looks bright, but futures tend to be....murky.
If the queen had balls, she'd be the King.

Meanwhile the Kings haven't won a playoff series in 11 years. I'd go with our past 3-4 years but that was also Blake coming out of a rebuild too quickly to appease Doughty and Kopi. Then follow that up with a spring full of stupid playoff trades, then the PLD acquisition; all coupled with year after year of squandering NHL-level right shot defensemen (Durzi, Walker, Roy, Spence). To add insult to injury, the Kings got rid of a "C" GM for an "F" GM.

Looking at the future, do the Kings really have anyone who approaches the awesomeness of Carlsson or Sennecke or Gauthier? The Ducks have players getting it done. The Kings have Byfield with his half point per game and the hope that one of their prospects (none of which are blue chip) somehow becomes a star.

And again, if we want to use arbitrary metrics ("means nothing unless they win a Cup") then we can still look at the past 11 years where the Kings have not won a single playoff series and the Ducks made the WCF twice. AEG's goal is sustained playoffs mediocrity-- make the playoffs and then complain about a bad bounce or tough matchup but overall just sell tickets. So by that metric, the Kings are doing great.

Vegas comes back from a 4-1 deficit at the start of the third period, and score 3 goals, with the GTG with 49 seconds left in the game. Then lose in a shootout to Dallas 5-4.The Ducks get shutout at home to Vancouver 2-0

You can lean that way sure, but how different would it have looked if the Kings did not face Edmonton 5 playoff 1st rounds in a row?

Go back 11 seasons for ANA? Cool, let's go back 12 and 14 for the Kings when they...won the Cup (and had a conference finals loss in the span, if winning the Cup is not the goal). What did the Ducks do in the time-span - made the playoffs 6 out of 14 (43%) seasons, and made it as far as the conference finals. That's not exactly stellar and a pretty rough stretch as an Organization and its fans.

Do we have anyone at Carlsson, Sennecke or Gauthier's level? Well yeah, we have Kempe and Fiala, neither of which are exactly old (29) and Clarke who is looking more and more like a future star. Sure the Ducks have a better prospect pool and better young players, but we have already established that (7 straight years of missing the playoffs should do that for a team).

Lastly, winning the Cup is not an "arbitrary metric" (defined as: based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system). Not really clear where you are going with that, but ultimately Cup wins are the highest level of success and what defines a franchise.

Trocheck makes the most sense to me.

Yep. Two-way center with decent term (ends before he becomes ancient) and on good money. Not very big, though, so Birdman won't approve.

Still, if the price isn't excessive he should be good.

If Ken trades for Panarin, though, I will laugh my @ss off.

Apparently Panarin has already rejected the Kings extension offer, if the rumors are true, so hopefully that closes the door on him.

Agree with you on Trocheck - Kings need to make this one happen. I hate to imagine what the Rangers will want in return, however.
