Alderan shoots first in the new version

I understand the desire for people to have the OT for purchase. I can get behind that feeling. I just think some people carry their feelings a little too far on some of these changes. It feels like they hate them out of principle more than because of what they actually are. My personal feelings are that I like a lot of what he did with the special editions, and I feel he went a little overboard with some of the stuff too. Not enough to ruin my enjoyment though. I still dig 'em.

I think that a lot of the hate is because Lucas just KEEPS changing them. It's one thing to clean up matte lines, polishing up the sabres(teehee)...but the Han/Greedo thing and NOOOOOOOOO, and substituting Hayden Cristensen's ghost...these are major alterations to what has previously existed. It's like Warner Brothers going in and changing the yellow brick road to a four lane blacktop. Technical improvements can be forgiven, applauded even, but Lucas just does not know when to stop. And yeah, because of that people tend to overreact whenever news comes out that he is at it again. And yes, fanboys cry to the heavens...WHY???? So? If not for fanboys Lucas would have had to come up with a new movie or two along the way. In the end, everyone will buy it, so matter not it does...or something like that.

**** that. Since when is art about technical perfection? Who gives a **** if the lightsabres are the wrong color or a storm trooper bonks his head on a door frame or if Vader's ghost had hair that never actually grew.

THINGS AREN'T PERFECT.

That's part of their charm.

Harry's been watching the STAR WARS Saga on Blu Ray all day... and still is...
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I love Harry and he is like my geek Yoda...this is a good read and a good argument for just letting go of the hate and buying in. Funny, Kinqsqueen was asking me...what's all the hubbub? And when I told her she said, 'I could care less, but those overhauls are wrong...'. I am very conflicted. I think I will just stick with my DVD copies for now and wait for the inevitable 'Classic' versions.

I know a lot of people keep saying that they will wait for Lucas to released remastered versions of the original, but DVD has practically come and gone, and it didn't happen. I won't be holding my breath for those versions to come out on Blu-ray and people who are will probably be waiting for a long time. :P

If by "win" you mean "I subverted the intention of Dr. Naysay's post by referencing an artist in a completely different medium with a completely different philosophical approach and impact" then yea... bravo. Go listen to some indie funk fusion underground Tom Waits covers done by sherpas playing 17 string kotos and ouds.

In the meantime.....

It's entirely possible to not give two ****s about what George Lucas does or doesn't change but also strongly disagree with his attitude and approach to "his" "art".

Would be great for a goof to take a clip of the yellow brick road/munchkin land scene and superimpose NIKE logos on all the hats and place ads for Starbucks and Apple computers around the various OZ locals.

Of a different note....Lucas is his own worst enemy. Stop f'ing with your masterpiece. Every rerelease comes with some new addition that is far worse then the original.

there is zero mention or hint of either medium of philosophical approach and impact implicit in the statement - "Since when is art about technical perfection?" therefore, i answered that question accordingly with a single example... there are scores of others. i haven't subverted the intention of dickall, unless of course your intention was just to bitch about something.

if you have to ask that question in earnest, you have never cared for art enough to study it in depth.

You knew what I meant and you know what I mean.

Picked-up 2 sets because they're available up here as a game trade-in at Best Buy's sister store (Future Shop). Will probably get a third as well because this will not be $44 for a long time. :)

Watched half the movies already. No complaints from me.

ANH + ESB: perfection.

TPM Yoda looks like he fits the prequels now. There are still things I did not see/realize before, like the speeder driver on Coruscant at the landing platform looks like he is a Bothan.

Listened to half-hour of each commentary. And there are 2 for each movie. Have not even watched the extras yet. This set is easily the best Blu-Ray release of the year.
