I understand the desire for people to have the OT for purchase. I can get behind that feeling. I just think some people carry their feelings a little too far on some of these changes. It feels like they hate them out of principle more than because of what they actually are. My personal feelings are that I like a lot of what he did with the special editions, and I feel he went a little overboard with some of the stuff too. Not enough to ruin my enjoyment though. I still dig 'em.
Technical improvements can be forgiven, applauded even

**** that. Since when is art about technical perfection? Who gives a **** if the lightsabres are the wrong color or a storm trooper bonks his head on a door frame or if Vader's ghost had hair that never actually grew.
THINGS AREN'T PERFECT.
That's part of their charm.

I win....
I love Harry and he is like my geek Yoda...this is a good read and a good argument for just letting go of the hate and buying in. Funny, Kinqsqueen was asking me...what's all the hubbub? And when I told her she said, 'I could care less, but those overhauls are wrong...'. I am very conflicted. I think I will just stick with my DVD copies for now and wait for the inevitable 'Classic' versions.
I think that a lot of the hate is because Lucas just KEEPS changing them. It's one thing to clean up matte lines, polishing up the sabres(teehee)...but the Han/Greedo thing and NOOOOOOOOO, and substituting Hayden Cristensen's ghost...these are major alterations to what has previously existed. It's like Warner Brothers going in and changing the yellow brick road to a four lane blacktop.
If by "win" you mean "I subverted the intention of Dr. Naysay's post by referencing an artist in a completely different medium with a completely different philosophical approach and impact" then yea... bravo. Go listen to some indie funk fusion underground Tom Waits covers done by sherpas playing 17 string kotos and ouds.
In the meantime.....
I like the last part that says Episode 1 to be released in 3D. That means this whole thing will be re-re-released again in 3D in a few years. Why spend money on this blu-ray?A good timeline of the alterations for folks who don't know what the fuss is all about...

there is zero mention or hint of either medium of philosophical approach and impact implicit in the statement - "Since when is art about technical perfection?" therefore, i answered that question accordingly with a single example... there are scores of others. i haven't subverted the intention of dickall, unless of course your intention was just to bitch about something.
if you have to ask that question in earnest, you have never cared for art enough to study it in depth.
