The Star Wars thread

There is a part of me that would love to as SW is my all time favorite franchise as the multiple versions on DVD, Blu Ray, Laserdisc, VHS and more than 200 books and comics in my collection would attest to...but I don't think I can sit in any theater for 15 or so hours. I say no now but if I was ever going to do something like this, Star Wars would be the only reason.

If they did this for my all time favorite franchise, I'd have to sit in a theater for two entire days. I don't think I could make it much past six hours even with that.

Jezuz! The aerial combat scenes LOOK F***ING AMAZING!

Looks like JJA might hold true to using CGI in the right places/spaces versus GL using it as "screen filler". Thats what made the last three visually awful; sterility and laziness. Lots of practical effects in that 2 minutes.

By the looks of whats been put out there so far, I dont think this thing is going to be a dissappointment unless there are some glaring holes in the story. I just dont see it with the level of talent in the production team.

I will say that I LOVE how dark it looks!

Not sure I can bother elbowing my way to an early ticket but I'll catch it eventually, movie looks good. I think my favorite part of the trailer is the score.

John Williams is a master. Just subtle enough to be different and new, but completely familiar too.

Got my marathon tickets for the Sherman Oaks viewing. Comfortable seats, assigned so I don't have to wait in line to not be stuck up front, and someone who is as big a fan as I am along with me. Couldn't be more excited. Not just for the new movie, but the whole event of seeing them all on the big screen again.

Gonna say it and I don't care, I like all six of them. Hate on haters.

I will chalk that up to hysteria. Seriously, every bad decision that could have been made in the prequels was. From the TOO SOON death of Qi Jon whatshisname, Darth Maul's terrible early exit in a death that rivaled Boba Fett's in the wtf category, the horrible Jango fett clone stuff, wasting Sam Jackson, Yoda cgi, Natalie Portman's disgraceful wooden acting and stilted accent, Hayden fn Christensen, need I go on. Those movies broke my heart 3 goddamned times and I haven't even mentioned he who shall not be named...let's not be silly son.

Double-bladed lightsaber
Kenobi and Skywalker lightsaber fight
Clone War battle scenes
Final shot with Vader and the Emperor looking at the death star being built
THE MUSIC!

There were plenty of good things too. They weren't the BEST movies ever, but there's still enough there that they at least fit the narrative. I mean hell, once you hit Tatooine in the first one, who doesn't take a nap till they get to the Cantina? How awful does the Vader and Kenobi lightsaber fight look on the Death Star? Or how about Luke's whining throughout the first movie? All I'm saying is, this new one is the best movie ever made.

You know what they need to do? They need to make 3 versions of the prequels again.

1) the kids version: Fill up the whole thing with Jar Jar, inappropriate droid beeps, ewoks and what have you to hook the kids and sell the toys

2) the casual fandom 3d version: OK take out the idiot screen time, more battle scenes and visual awesomeness and one liners, maybe leave in some droid beeps

3) The onscreen version of the secret book: Make it R rated and charge 5 times more for it, show Anakin slaughtering everything, more Darth Maul and Sideous chicanery, Yoda, Qui jon and Windu having a tear your heart out argument before the council about the right way to bring along padawan.

The movies shot this way don't even need to seem like they're centering around the same plot so long as the end at the same'ish juncture.

This thought brought to you by the fact that this week I watched Scooby doo one and two with my kids and they ****ing loved those movies....

Look, the most Grievous miscalculation was the slavish/machinelike cgi and 6 hour discourse on Empire politics. All at the expense of any attention to acting. The prequels were neither fun nor funny. Add to that the horrible reality of how boring Vader's origin of being a Padme obsessed spoiled brat and NO...JUST NO. Just stop.

That's just mean...come on.

Got my tix, no 3d, no Imax...I just wanted to get in and see the damned thing. Can always do the flashy options after.
I did standard showing, 7pm on the 17th. Will do the super Imax that weekend maybe.
