The Star Wars thread

NO SPOILERS HERE

But this was one of the best, most ambitious movies I have ever seen.

Hurm. I hate to be thatguy...but I was left a little cold by the whole thing. Have to see it again, and I want to, but it was a tad overlong and really kinda Rogue Wars boring at times. Maybe it's the simple fact that the new Family(Rey/Poe/Finn) just really pale in comparison to those that came before.

Not sure why people are dissatisfied, I thought it was fun. You can't take these movies too seriously.

Some at my Salvation Army kettle said maybe a little too much fun in it... I knocked a few points off for not having a powerful enough musical score...even though it was a good one... I gave a score of 93/100...marking my third highest rating for any of the numbered SW episodes... Only the original (94) and ESB (100) beat this out...

I dunno man, "boring" isn't a word id attribute to this film, at all. Of all the movies, this one had the least amount of downtime.

I enjoyed the hell out of it. It does things that none of its predecessors did, and quite well actually. There are a few "WTF?" moments but to be honest, the franchise needs a few of those at this point.

It ran about 20 minutes too long for my liking but IMHO, it is the best film since Empire.

PS: Adam Driver is a crappy villain. I still equate him to that jerkoff happy tool in "Girls". He's a garbage actor.

I agree with everything except the Adam driver part. He's perfect for the role of dysfunctional corporate behemoth

I can agree with that. He's the plays the petulant, arrogant and self righteous arse pretty well but there's something about AD's acting that really turns me off to him. I can't put my finger on it but its there, for me at least. That said, and without spoilage, I'm glad Snoke called him out.

You're talking to Star Wars fans. Same adults who dress up in costume, swing around toy lightsabres, sleep on the sidewalk to be the first to see a movie...and literally cry when there are audio issues in the theater.

Taking things seriously? :)

That's kinda dismissive. I am a fan of the star wars franchise. I do not own a lightsaber. I simply thought there were a LOT of questionable decisions and a lot of wtf moments. I cannot discuss yet due to spoiler embargo, but I will.

Oh there was a crapload of that but if you don't approach these movies willing to strap in and go for a ride how could you ever be satisfied?

Biggest piece of shiat since the prequels. I'm ready to go when the thread is. Total disappointment. Too many problems to just "go along" for the ride.

Without spoiler discussion.....

Trainwreck of a Star Wars film. Trainwreck even if it was a stand-alone film.

Disjointed writing. Throw-away characters. Aimless middle act.

If the movie was about "failure", then the movie succeeded as well in that it was a failure.

I don't think Episode IX can pull the trilogy out of the dive they created in Episode VIII.

Sorry. Didn't mean to "group" you all into the same stereotype. But I find people take it way too seriously. It's a movie.

As I stated, I am a fan of the movies...so I know what is required to enjoy them. But, when massive holes are lumped under 'well, the Force', there is a limit to how many times you can look the other way. And almost every turn exposed logic flaws that were painted with the same brush. I also stated that the characters that are meant to carry the day are nothing more than 2 dimensional sketches compared to the ones that came before. Johnson spent so much time deconstructing...but not a lot of time developing. I cannot really elaborate without getting into spoilers, so I will hold off on explaining. Rogue One was pretty to look at, but at the end of the day...empty and forgettable. That was the overall feeling I was left with here as well. No scene expresses that more than the salt desert at the end. Beauty sure, but meaningless.

true. It is just a movie. And I think that is where the mass disappointment is generated. For whatever reason, the original trilogy was more than just a movie. And unfortunately that is the bar that has been set. Say what you want about TFA, but one thing it had was just enough of that magic to carry it over. Nostalgia, fan service, whatever...it resonated with that inner child that was sooooo disappointed by the sequels we wish we could all forget. In the original trilogy you had a sense of adventure, spirit and unbridled HOPE that is hard to duplicate. Instead of trying, Johnson seemed to flip the bird to all that. I admire his courage, but I did not enjoy the results.

I was never a big fan of the prequels.

To that end, after watching The Last Jedi, I now see them in a far better light when compared to The Last Jedi.
