This team needs a strong face off winner

Regular season Faceoff Win % - leading all players was Patrice Bergeron with 61.9%, Kopitar was at 56.9%. The only other player with over a 60% win rate was John Tavares at 60.6%. All other players above Kopitar had a differential that was negligible.

So how do you propose we get either Bergeron or Tavares?

I don't know the exact stats of the players in the league in faceoffs but it seems to me most hover around 50%. That tells me there isn't a discernable difference with most players so it really isn't a stat that says or helps much. There are other parts of the game a forward needs to have that are far more important that faceoffs.

winning faceoffs was not the issue. Did you see how many goals the Kings scored last night. ZERO goals is going to win ZERO games.

and how many they kept winning AFTER winning the faceoff?

they have to control the puck (of even SHOOT) after they win a faceoff

The Kings were 5th in the league Faceoffs and scored 239 goals. Colorado was 28th and scored 312. Florida was 23rd and scored 340. Somethin tells me faceoffs aren't an issue that needs to be addressed...

Faceoffs are fine. What this team needs is the ability to finish. Just take a gander above at the face-off acumen in comparison to goal scoring of teams like Colorado and Florida.

this is why I quit putting the faceoff stats in the regular season GDT stats. It is meaningless from game to game. Within a game, yes, but overall it is a useless stat. Top teams are always at the bottom of the faceoff % and bottom teams near the top. I have kept track of it over the past 5 years or so.

Individual leaders, though, do make a difference. But it has to be a guy who takes a lot of faceoffs for it to have any real meaning.

Dry and Helvetica, I was "venting", trying to think what is best for the kings. But yeah. a strong face off is needed.

Really? and where did this stat cone from?

Let’s just kill the faceoffs stats as nice to track for the Statisticians, offense zone? Defensive zone? Power play? Penalty play? % leading to a two, leading to assist for a goal? Short, even, advantage? My brain hurts, there are basic stats like PP and PK that dominate this teams needs for improvement

Can not score goals with out the puck. Puck control is huge

This isn’t the NFL, Control of the puck is not exclusively based on faceoffs. Control is based on collecting the puck in your own end and entering the opposing teams own end. What is the expectation for puck control? Where’s the turnover or puck possession stats in your assessment.

Face off wins are pretty important. But........if it makes everyone happy, I just got back from Vegas and I LOST every NHL bet I placed.
Thanks Blues, Flames, and yes the Canes.
