GDT ***Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Los Angeles Kings GDT 3/29/25 >>4:00pm<< on FanDuel***

Look at what happens when they lose their 4th line. This team cannot win with a shortened bench. They need to have 4 lines rolling to compete with the top half of this league.
I totally agree this team needs to roll all four lines. The Kopi retirement histrionics above not withstanding, balance is needed and his minutes need watched. But that was a unique turn of events and terrible penalties that put this one away, not the fourth line benched. Worst third period that I can recall this season. At least since San Jose way way back.

Also a game that seriously pisses you off. Like more than any typical loss.

That was an awesome first two periods. Great hockey on both sides. One lapse by Kopi, risky call by Jim and the wheels fell off.
Re the challenge: Foxy finally admitted that the camera angles were inconclusive. I was hopeful before the replays but that went away when I immediately saw the ref ruled the play good. It was a chance Hiller didn’t have to take and losing the challenge turned the game around.

And I agree that was the kind of loss that leaves one pissed off.

They showed a still pic on the Jumbo tron. The red arrow (which was supposed to show Mathews' shoulder) looked angled downward... Maybe some hometown artwork.

The only angle we got to see in-arena did not look like it was above the shoulder to me.... Also, that play happened right below my seats and no one in the arena reacted at the time -l really think they made the correct call

I was going to reply to like 37 posts...but I think I'll try to condense all my replies into one:

For starters, anyone angry about the result of this game has a reason to be...for maybe several reasons. Hell, if Ghandi was a Kings fan, even he'd probably like strangle someone after this game.

And I can't imagine why Toronto would rule in favor of Toronto.

Hiller & Co. made the right call challengng that goal. Here's why...

...I just got back from Vegas. The best way to explain this would be mathematically. Let's go with risk and reward based on the odds:

Toronto scores. It's 1-1.

King's challenge.

If they win, it's definitely back to 1-0 Kings

If they lose, the Leafs potentially take a 2-1 lead.

Therefore, the odds were in the Kings favor, because if they win the challenge, they definitely have the lead. And if they lose the challenge, they are definitely not behind 2-1, because if they kill the power play (whcih they did), they're right back where they started before the challenge ties at 1-1. Basic math.

Therefore, based simply on risk or reward, Hiller had more to gain than lose by challenging that call. Point Blank.

And based on two different angles, the puck appeared to be about 6" over his shoulder when he hit it with his stick. But No Way was Toronto going to overturn that call. If it was the other way around...NO Goal.

And if Toronto thinks 6" doesn't matter, they should talk to their wives.

Speaking of getting laid, the Kings got laid tonight. It's a game we should have won. And Hiller made the right call.

Listening on the radio while driving to the sirius xm broadcast, they stated that there was an angle that clearly showed it was hit as a high stick. When it wasn't called back they were completely baffled.

Check out the angle of Matthews stick. Plus, all three players in this photo are clearly looking up at the puck. It sure looks like the puck was played with a high stick.

Hiller was not in a good mood after the game. Who could blame him?

Kopi needs to retire
I don't know what's worse, that someone is saying this or that someone agreed with it. Had nothing to do with speed, he lost sight of it. Could've happened to anyone. Kopitar is not what he used to be, but he's still manning a top line in the NHL and for the most part, doing a great job at it. As a fan outside of LA, I get stuck with the visitor feed constantly and while it sucks, they ALL are always praising Kopitar and the plays he is still making game-to-game.

Lotta whining… has this thread has turned into an Oilers GDT?😁

Bottom line = team played poorly in the 3rd period punctuated by 2 unfortunate gaffes from #11.

Hope the Kings take out their anger and frustration on the Sharks tonight.

GKG!!!

People on here were saying Dustin Brown needed to retire already during his last season. And we were right. That was brutal to watch.

Way different story with Kopi. Those errors last night were particularly egregious but it’s also notable because we simply aren’t used to seeing those by him, even recently as he’s slowed down later in the season. He’s lost some more puck battles than he used to. In short, he’s looking more human. But take him out of the lineup and see what you get. Calgary might catch us.

I love the Captain. He is without a doubt the King of Kings. It pains me greatly to see his skills diminishing. And there’s really no good solution given the current roster other than limiting his minutes to keep him fresh. The PK would be a good place to start.

Blake was correct in his attempt to land a player who could confidently step in at 1C sooner than later. The PLD debacle will have lasting repercussions.

Still, QB is gonna need to be “the guy” next year although he may still be a bit raw.

Oh I hundred percent agree. As it stands now, Byfield is going to need to be ready or this team will not have a true number one center next season. And even if he succeeds, Kings will essentially have two older, though defensively elite, third line centers.

The PLD trade made sense in theory, just wrong guy to target. This is why I bang the drum about Bennet being a more important target than anyone else, though I really think he’s writing his own ticket to play anywhere he wants.

55 & 22 should be the nucleus of the top line next year. When Kopi moves down the lineup, what happens to Juice and Kuzy? There is no one in the system to even become 2C in the future. But if Greentree on the wing actually is who we think he is, would trading Kempe + ? for a stud left shot first pairing d'man make sense?

Too f***ing disgusted to bother commenting yesterday for a variety of reasons, however, I will say this. As long as he plays like he did in this one, Jeff Malott should have a spot on this teams 4th line, until the end of time.
So happy I made it back in time to see that fight. Now that's how you introduce yourself to the team and the fans. I already love the guy.
