Trade idea: Vilardi to Rangers for Matthew Robertson

Rangers need a C.

Kings need LHD with size.

Both players have their "ifs", so perhaps they even out?

If GV's game explodes, he'd be far away and do us little harm.

Robertson is a shutdown-type and could be a sleeper.

Only drawback I can see is we would be giving up an NHL ready player for a D man who may not be ready for another year or more since Robertson has only 1 year in the AHL

But that does buy us some time with the prospect.

With Vilardi, we have to make room for him, or risk losing him 4 nothing.

Interesting idea. I don't know much about him but the fact that he is a big exceptional skating defensemen with the ability to get pucks on net through traffic definitely sounds promising. Seems like he could fill a needed role on the Kings. Only negative I see is a history of concussions.

Kind of an interesting comparison. Vilardi is about 18 months older. Both look more likely than not to be NHLers. This model thinks Vilardi still has a chance to be a star producer, but I'm not sure I buy it.

And that alone would be enough to scare me off. The Kings are already dealing with that with Turcotte.
