Twenty-Four Years Ago Today...

I’ve heard the Frenzy (and Game 6) in ‘01 and Brown’s empty-netter/sweeping the Blues in ‘12 were the loudest that building’s been, and it makes sense. The later rounds are when the celebrities and influenza (I mean influencers) come and start diluting the crowd and reactions. Rounds 1 & 2, all Kings fans.
Another factor which likely attributes to the Frenzy being the loudest game ever was that there wasn’t much to cheer for through 53 minutes of game time. It all exploded in the last 5-6 mins of regulation and culminated in sudden death OT, whereas the cup clinching game in 2012 was a much slower burn. The Frenzy was like a raging party, and 2012 was a cathartic release after years of anguish.

I lived at Denver at this time, and Avs won cup this year, but Colorado fans definitely were glad to play Kings, not Detroit
Yeah, I remember that series, in fact a bunch of us LGK'ers had a game watch party at Crabby Bob's in Burbank for at least one of the games.

A lot of people forget that even after the huge emotional series win vs Detroit the Kings took the eventual Stanley Cup champion Avalanche to 7 games. In fact, in game 7 it was 1-1 going into the 3rd period. The Kings win that period and who knows what kind of run they make.

That was a fun Spring.

Were you a prodigy as a child?

I'm sitting here juggling appropriate responses to this and realized no, I am not a prodigy. My 10 year old self was a big liar and just wanted to also be in college in this story. An example of my 10 year old self lying: I wrote every team a letter one year (I wanna say 2001 when this happened) saying it was my birthday when it wasn't, and I wanted signed player cards. The Avalanche sent me one for like every player on their team, which was cool - Roy, Forsberg, Sakic, etc (my sister who was 10 years younger than me one day decided to sharpie all over them). Almost every team sent me something, from posters and other things - EXCEPT the god damned Los Angeles Kings sent my lying ass nothing. So I'm not saying a prodigy would have thought up such a brilliant scheme but... maybe?
