Must-win game against a division rival, their 5 stars out, and we still lose… Better play Kuemper and an injured Fiala every game here on out if we want to sniff the playoffs, cuz the current lineup ain’t doing it 🤷‍♂️

I copied this from tomorrow's GDT. But it's about today's game
Jim Hiller
On losing to a team as shorthanded as Vegas was tonight

They played hard. So, it’s the NHL. They played hard. They’re missing some of their high-end guys, they made it hard on us, they checked hard. We had an opportunity, clearly, to win the game, and made three mistakes in four minutes and all three of them ended up in the back of the net.
On if he believes the Kings respected the situation enough tonight, considering all that was at stake
I believe they did. Yeah, I believe they did. I mean, when you take that group of guys out, they create offense. The guys that go in, they’re just in there checking, working hard and staying above you, forechecking, they put the puck in a lot. So, they made it hard on us to create a lot of chances, but we just can’t give them five goals. That’s where the breakdown is. It’s not the fact that we didn’t get seven, it’s the fact that we gave them five, I don’t count the empty net. So, it’s a combination of things, for sure.
What is he saying? Is he saying that with their best 5 guys out that Vegas is actually better? He makes no sense. I don't understand what this team sees in him. Why do they think he will get them into the playoffs?

I wonder if the organization realizes the lack of urgency Vegas showed in getting their players back. I mean Doughty flew back yesterday and played. Vegas’ Canadian players all went to Vegas. Why? Because they knew it was just the Kings they were playing, not an actual threat. They didn’t see a hungry team looking to get back in the playoffs, they saw a poorly coached mess.

And of course.- they were right. What an embarrassment this team has become.

What in the world is he saying? Yeah but the guys that replaced their stars check and play hard? Yeah it’s like they have this whole system that demands a certain type of play when you’re in their lineup. I wonder who is in charge of that? A COACH perhaps?

My favourite part of the night was the Kempe, Kopitar and Panarin instant chemistry, instant success aaaaand instant change back to the other lines Hiller decided on before the game. If Hiller had ever seen the LAPD line, Palffy would’ve been back with Steve Heinze within a few shifts.

Hiller is beyond stupid…

I saw the downfall of the Kings the week before the Olympics. Losing those division games is all I needed to see to find out what type of team the Kings are going to be. They played two division rivals that they are chasing and got smoked by both of them.

Adding a player like Panarin was not going to save this team. Keumper back in goal is not going to save this team. Giving Holland a three year deal with the mindset of win now is going to set this organization back for at least 7 more years. There is still two more with Holland and then the tear down.

The Kings don't have the players to win now and adding a few more is not going to get them there. The Kings are not making the playoffs and yet they are not in rebuild mode or even close to a rebuild.
Best regards,

The continued misuse of both Laf and Q should have resulted in Hiller getting the boot during the Olympic break. If Q is really a 1C, his wingers should have been Kempe and Laf. That leads to the question about insisting that Laf play as a center, a role in which he has amply demonstrated that he badly miscast. Hiller’s defiance of the obvious is so detrimental to any success this team aspires to achieve. He can’t be removed soon enough.

Yesterday and today's games would be very telling about the coach's future in pretty much every other organization. Not the Kings tho....they could lose the next 5 home games and Hiller will still be the coach. This was an absolute must win and a complete failure from both players and coaches. Can't wait to be at the games tonight and Saturday /s

Best regards,

I don't know. If the GM is very capable, it can be done without rebuild. Look at the Panthers. They sucked around the same time the Kings up until 2014 and haven't had prolonged suckage and top picks since.

Since 2006 (when Kopitar came into the league signaling a different era for the Kings) they picked top 15 11 times, top 3 4 times.

Players picked in top 15 since then are: Frolik nr. 10 (meh), Ellerby nr. 10 (non factor), Kulikov nr. 14 (decent-ish), Gudbranson nr. 3 (decent-ish), Huberdeau nr. 3 (very good), Barkov nr. 2 (elite), Ekblad nr. 1 (very good), Crouse nr. 11 (meh), Tippett nr. 10 (meh), Denisenko nr. 15 (non factor), Knight nr. 13 (meh), Lundell nr. 12 (meh).

They got some gems in the later rounds up until 2010/11, but since then their draft record has been atrocious. They hit on almost no one worthwhile apart from maybe Lundell, Crouse and Tippett since picking 1st overall in 2014.

Yet their GM managed to assemble a team that managed to win 2 Cups after steady upward trajectory post 2018-19 season...all thanks to a very, very good GM. A GM that, prior to his very successful stint in Florida boasted with a rich...AHL management career and before that some background management role for CBJ. Two NHL teams passed on him before he got hired by Panthers - Kraken hired NHL household name Francis, Oilers hired NHL household name Holland. I guess both of those teams Luc-ed it up.

Luc played it safe with NHL household name&buddy Blake and then NHL household name&buddy Holland. And here we are.

I actually like that Panarin punched Lauzon in the face. I like Perry stuck up for Byfield. I don’t like that Kings don’t go after guys like Hertl when a player like Lauzon is deciding he can make a statement and then keeps taking liberties.

There are bigger issues from last night. But this is a culture a new coach can help foster.

Agreed!! I can accept a loss, but I’ll never accept if (when…) they run away when the going gets tough…
