VRANKOL'S Movie Quiz

Hm. This might turn out to be tough. Loved this movie as a kid, but also I was 7 years old when it was released. Clearly, that's Burt, and also Burt made a bunch of these movies in the '70s that were similar, Smokey and the Bandit being one of them. My favorite of them was Hooper, but this is not from Hooper. I think both Smokey and Hooper were directed by the late, great Hal Needham, who also disappointed us all with Megaforce. However, this one was not directed by Hal.

One thing that might make this tough is that according to Wikipedia, "As of 2015, the film has not been released on DVD or any other home video format." I didn't know this going in, so sorry about that.

Hint (and I never knew this before):
This was the first film appearance for both Jerry Reed and Brad Dourif. Since I was a kid when I saw this, that didn't mean anything to me then, but especially Brad Dourif surprised me, because I always thought the debut of old Piter De Vries / Chucky was as Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. This movie must have pre-dated that by only months.

Cannonball Run?

No. That one is available on DVD and Blu-ray; is directed by Hal Needham; and you can bet if it were Cannonball Run, I'd have surely posted a scene with Jackie Chan in it! Fun movie, though!

The director of this movie is most famous for two movies involving fight competitions, one of which earned him the Academy Award for Best Director. That's probably not a good hint, because if you do know this movie, it's probably not by the director. it's probably either for Burt or the real star of the film: an Oldsmobile. So, I guess the real Hint #2 should be "Oh, I wish I was in…" this band.

Also, dang, I'm shocked by some of the things I'm finding about this movie while I'm looking for hints. Haha. Art Carney was in this movie. So was Mel Tillis. Ditto Ned Beatty. So was Polly "Kiss My Grits!" Holliday. And the music was by Dave Grusin?! Wow! And FWIW, Brad Dourif's role was not even credited.
