WTS: Buddhist Monk - MN 3/20

Clif

Super Star
Not much hockey talk, but an emotional night assessing the state of their team. Enjoy - all from hfboards this time.

Pregame:

-Someone will win.
Someone will lose.
Whichever it is, yours to choose.
—Weed is a great,
substitute for booze?
-A wild game featuring Kevin Fiala is guaranteed to be more exciting than one with out him.
—Faber says #$@! Fiala! He also says that Pepsi is better than Coke.
——I guess he's not a god after all...
-Kings once vaunted prospect pool has basically been diminished to just Byfield & Clarke. It’s an interesting team with a mix of vets, young guys and guys in their prime. But man they have mismanaged a lot of their assets
-Still hilarious that Drew Doughty said Kaprizov was overpaid.

Game:

-Fiala assist alert
-clear elbow by kempe on faber....
-f*** I love that stache. Surprised Middleton didn't get an instigator.
-I loved the fight, but that's a 5 minute win for the King's who took our #2 defenseman out. Now it's Faber and............damn.
-Yuck. Kings need to eat some glass, already.
-A goose egg wins games eh? I mean for sure we need another dman and not a player like Fiala
—Offense can be generated from defensemen. You know that, right? Right now our defense doesn't generate anything and it puts extra stress on our forwards.
——Who the f*** is the defensemen gonna move the puck up to???? Freddy f***ing Gudreau?
-I get upset because Fiala made this team watchable. What we have now is now is not watchable and the injuries are zero excuse. None. This team is not a contender. We lack skill. I would trade faber back for Fiala in a second.
—Ohhhh boyyy, you need to take a break and settle down. It’s just sports, this literally means nothing in the long run.
——Are you a Buddhist monk or something?
-It’s just so perfectly Minnesota for us to finish with the 15th draft pick.
-I take it back , I would not trade faber back for Fiala lol. I was just upset watching Fiala end our season for us with actual offensive talent.
—Look at it this way, somebody with talent will end it. Could’ve been a 4th liner like John Merrill. That’s the Minnesota way…
-The Wild get the first 10 minutes of the 2nd to close the gap. If they don't, I'm off to bed.
—Nite!
-Funny thing is, there is still enough time to make a comeback. Just saying. And I'm sober.
—LA money line currently 500:1 lol
-So basically what I’m watching here is Kap to the Rags in 2026.
-Beating bad teams and then getting blown up by fringe playoff teams is not TRENDING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. Everyone knew the recent record was snake oil. All it did was move us out of the area where we might draft a talented player. Yay
-Foligno with his epic leadership going to the box.
-So our "leaders" are responding in this game by taking penalties.
-Hoping to see the Wild at least play chippy and show they care here.
-I think LA just feels sorry for us now... not sorry enough to let us score, but sorry enough to not try too hard.
-Love the commentators calling out Dubois too lol.

Postgame:

-This game wasn't on Bally's so I got deep into guitar practice. Finally checked in on the game. I clearly didn't miss anything whatsoever.
-Dude , we are still in this. The team is so close I can feel it. We are just one offensive dman away from a cup. I’d assume we will find that player somewhere around 15th in the draft and then BOOOOOM …parade

"I was just upset watching Fiala end our season for us with actual offensive talent."

First jersey I've bought since 2011 Quick -- and he's just improving his overall game. My wife's theory in his lack of penalties last night was his recentish forray into reverse checks to get his frustration out. His PIMs went down when he started doing more of those, and now it's several a game, and working well for him - except when a dude goes face first into his shoulder I guess.

Let's see...we traded Faber for Fiala...Both Turcotte and especially Laferriere are bonafide NHLers who both just played in a 6-0 blowout of your team. Clarke is a future top pair defenseman and Byfield is without question a very near future All Star calibur #1 center in the middle of a break out season. We traded Kupari (a bust at this point) and an injury-prone malcontent in Vilardi and yes the result (PLD) so far isn't as great as we expected but I think we can all agree the biggest complaint about that deal was the ridiculous contract. All that said...I'm trying to find the 'mismanaging' of our assets here. Anyone? I mean I would certainly never assume to be as wise and all-knowing as a Minnesota hockey fan....but....

^^^^those 2 comments sum up last night's game. Their Dmen did absolutely nothing to move the puck. (just now realized that for myself).

You got it, man! Different flavors across the fanbases for sure, though if there’s one connective thread it’s that we’re all at least little harsh on our teams.
I have a couple close friends in St. Louis that are huge life-long Blues fans. Their main message board, Blues Talk, on the Post-Dispatch forums, is known as "The Asylum". That place is freakin' nuts. I'm just happy they finally won a Cup, or half those guys would have literally ended up institutionalized.

When the Kings beat the Blues in the second round of the 2012 playoffs, that place went bat-sh*t bonkers. And Dustin Brown was Public Enemy Number One. It was hilarious. They definitely have some, um, passionate fans.

It brings to mind the origin of the word 'fan'. It derives from the Modern Latin term 'fanaticus', meaning "insanely but divinely inspired". The word originally pertained to a temple or sacred place, or "extremely zealous".

Anyway, reading these WTS threads is always fun. And it reminds us how similar we all are in our fandom.

Careful now. Turcotte ain’t a nomadic NHLer yet.
