They really are the worse fanbase in all of sports. Can you imagine how much more miserable they must be when they have nothing to do in the offseason?

Having just spent 2 days in Edmonton, I can confirm that there is literally nothing else to do there besides watch hockey. Oh, wait....I did pass a place where you can learn to do curling and be on a competitive curling team. And there is 1 street with a lot of bars that is apparently packed every weekend. And you can walk along the river in a forest. Also, plenty (and I say this as an Angeleno), I mean PLENTY, of crazy/drugged out people you can meet at bus stops and in the Tim Horton's (which are the worst donuts I've ever had)

There's the mall with the water park/amusement park inside of it. I took my kid there once. But yes, Edmonton is pretty crappy city in terms of lacking things to do. Winnipeg is worse though. Although I did have a great Canadian prime steak in Winnipeg.

All the junkies on the streets around the arena in Winnipeg make the whole downtown scene pretty funky. Calgary is the nicest city in the plains, but the SaddleDome is a piece of crap.

Which hotel did you guys stay in while in Edmonton. The old railroad hotel just above the river is pretty cool.

We stayed at Days Inn downtown. A very un-glamorous hotel. With not-too-comfy beds. At the Travelodge here in Seattle - even more un-glamorous, but the beds are way more comfy!

We went to the mall - I rode the roller coaster, that was fun. Earl's restaurants are very good, though. We ate there twice in under 12 hours because it's so good.

By the way - the Oilers fans we met at the arena were very, very nice to us and we also had a fun time talking to some fans who were working at one of the stores in the mall who razzed us about our Kings gear in a very nice and friendly way.

That's great to hear - sounds like the online fans giving them a bad name may be the loud minority in that case.
