Whoa...this thread still exists! So awesome...I remember our photography discussions and "Photo Challenges" were a real boon to my abilities and creativity back in the day. Most of the stuff I've done over the past decade has been sports (daughter played club and varsity volleyball until she graduated last year), gratis work for a hot rod shop up here in Prescott, AZ (they work on my old trucks for me when I need them to), and a BIG product shoot I did for a jewelry company.

I made the jump to mirrorless this year. Went with the Nikon Z7II as I prepared for a three week trip to Japan we did in April and May. Fantastic camera system!! I'm working on adding to my lens kit for it, but with the FTZ adapter, everything from the old Nikon F-mount works too. So far, my favorite lens is the MC105 f/2.8 Macro Nikkor, but I've also got the S-Line 50mm. Probably going to grab a Z9 body at some point.

In addition from moving from DSLR to mirrorless, I've also gone back to film for fun. I ran into a mint Nikon F3HP in a camera shop in Osaka at an amazing price. It took me a bit to find time to load it up with some Ilford HP5+ and run through that roll, but it's now off to State Film Lab for processing/scanning. Now shooting some Kodak Gold 200 to see how it does. And last week my buddy gifted me a Canon AE-1 Program that I set about to cleaning up. Waiting on a battery from Amazon and a 50/f1.2 lens from Ebay and I'll probably throw a roll into it and toss it in my flight kit to play with at work. The Canon has a really weird feel compared to the Nikon F3 that I'm so used to, but I'll see how it goes. Also have a Yashica-E TLR that I'll be playing with after it gets back from the service center.

All this film jazz is coming back, baby! I got geeked about it again by watching a couple episodes of Smarter Every Day on YT where he toured the Kodak production plant.

I'll see about tossing some stuff up here soon.

The F3HP I grabbed in Osaka (with a strap I grabbed at the Nikon Museum in Tokyo).

Mike I just hit you with a twitter follow.

film for life!
It’s lots of fun, and really makes me think a lot more carefully about what I’m doing. But it sure is inconvenient and almost prohibitively expensive these days.

The main installation at teamLab Botanical Garden interactive art exhibit in Osaka. Nikon Z7II at ISO16000, Nikkor Z 24-50mm at f/8 and 1/6s.

So many memories of loading Tri-X 400 off the 100' roll onto those reusable cassettes. Then the terror of blindly loading your shot film on developing reels, hoping you're not messing up those shots you where excited about, and the joy of seeing that shot looking pretty cool on the enlarger. I do miss that process, but man, it was a lot of work.

What's max image size for posts on here?

the process kinda relaxed me... wish I still had all my equipment

because of the cost of each shot, I tend to get better shots! haha

@FBJ I love my mirrorless. No sound and you can fire off a blaze of pics with a slight touch. Being a Canon guy, I use the R5. The eye recognition on the R lenses/camera is a game changer. No need to focus hardly ever.

This is from when I was shooting LA Derby Dolls, using remote flashes stuck around the rink. I love the depth you get with this setup.

We doin’ calendar photos now!! My photo of our 1975 International Scout II in Monument Valley is next month’s image!

Monument Valley was our first stop on the 30-day, 4800 mile road trip we took last year in our Scout.
