I would be shocked if Villalta is even an AHL starter for Ontario next season.

My guess is they go with a tandem of Portillo and Ingham. And they'll still need some UFA to be a backup.

Villalta posted (relatively speaking) respectable numbers in AHL last year. IMO he's a perfect AHL material.

Let's not forget about Hrenak and Markkanen, though...both will seek to prove themselves in camp.

Hrenak's gone - he signed a contract to play overseas.

Markkanen will go back to Liiga. He already has a contract to go back.

While Villalta had his best season, I just think the acquisition of Portillo means they want to develop him, which means he gets playing time. And Ingham missed all season due to injury, so he'd be perfect as a backup to get a minimal workload. I just don't see Villalta as a fit, unless it's a one-year deal maybe? He's just shown little growth in his game 6 seasons later.

Edit: typo

Portillo probably doesn’t sign with the Kings if he didn’t expect to be the Reign starter. It would be fantastic if he can develop into an NHLer. Love a free asset!

Well, I usually am pumped up for the draft but since it's Chicago that miraculously is getting a likely franchise player and every team will be congratulating vegas, I'll sit this one out.

It still seems like yesterday we were here when they drafted Cristobal Huet. One of you said, did we just draft somebody named Crystal Ball?

Its all I think of when I hear his name.

I still have a Huet used stick (back from the days when :rinkdawg: did auctions to keep the server going) and also his jersey from Tip-A-King. Oh, the good ol' days.
