2025 Draft lottery

Holland had better be careful. If the picks before LA turn out to be players that our team needs and Holland chooses a less-than-stellar player, I will cringe. Especially if it's one that's all flash and no grit/sandpaper.

assuming they know how they are gonna draft but this is good for our system to get better. All of which i alluded to when everyone was freaking out over the pipeline. Totally fine with it.

The Kings just traded their pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for the 31st and 59th picks. I don't have a good feeling about this.

I'm not going to look at the exact odds but the 24th pick and 59th pick have about an equal chance of success at the NHL level. It's the smart move.

Outside the top 5-10...and even inside it it's such a crapshoot.

Saying you "don't have a good feeling about this..." is super hyperbolic.

Was there someone at 24 that was going to significantly improve the team the next 2 years? No chance. 3 years? Maybe...

2025 NHL draft: Updated prospect rankings after U18s

Obviously, the pickings look to be slim around 27th overall but I'm intrigued with Bill Zonnon based on his profile from the ESPN article hyperlinked above.

Zonnon went earlier than anticipated at 22nd overall to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but I'm optimistic that the Kings will get one of the popular defensemen on this board in either Sascha Boumedienne or Blake Fiddler. I'm guessing Yannetti & the organization must feel like they can settle for Henry Brzustewicz, if need be, but forward Malcolm Spence could be a value pick and rehabilitation project as he already projects to be a solid second-line contributor.

I'm guessing and hoping that the Kings are targeting my boy Simon Wang with the 59th overall pick in the second round, but I think they'll need to trade up to pull that off.

Thing is, odds change wildly with the picks taken or traded and comparing picks of that caliber is a bit of a stretch to call it an equal chance of success. Yes, drafting players is certainly not an easy task especially if your draft capital is low in quantity. But I expect careful handling of picks because sometimes trading away picks can get you burned. Super hyperbolic, you say? Don't get it twisted. I'm viewing Holland with cautious suspicion and not blind optimism here.
